I had a Ruger #1 re barreled 270 win chambered. Pac Nor #7 30 1'2" length 5 groove 1in8" twist.
So far here's some of the results after doing a little forearm work. I thought some would find it interesting.
165 gr Matrix bullet. G1 .650 claimed
58gr H4831- 3040 fps average. MV variation 13 fps.
Smallest 5 shot group size 13/16" 100 yards. COL 3.530
150 gr Speer BTSP G1 .496
58 gr H4831- 3144 fps average. MV variation 11 fps.
Smallest 5 shot group size 7/16" @100 yards. COL 3.510
@200 yards 3/4" three shot group.
I did run variations of powder charges in .5 grains from 55gr to 58.5gr. No pressure signs on case at all. It seemed to group tighter on the higher end of the powder charge. 55gr charge was still in the 2900 fps range but groups were 1 1/4".
Seems to like the 150gr pills better but still more powder to test, set backs and long range group tests.
Still waiting on the Nosler Accubond LR 150 gr bullet with claimed .625 G1 BC to test. I maybe leaning towards this bullet if it will group and hold anywhere to the .600 mark on the BC.
I'm pretty stoked about even the Speer BTSP running under 1/2 MOA at 200yards. Gun has less than 100 rounds through it and it keeps getting tighter on groups.
The 270 win gets to play long range games. I find that fascinating.
