Wed. evening i made a bad shot on a running boar hog that weighed 317 pounds on the hoof. Distance was about 50 yards. The 250 Partition grain bullet from my 35 Whelen Improved hit that hog at about 2,450 fps. The hog showed no sign of being hit. It ran off into grass and brush and started making blood curdling noises. Went after that hog and after chasing it around for about five minutes i dispatched the animal.

If a .35 Whelen Improved firing a 250 grain Partition bullet will not turn a gut shot into a bang flop not much else will.

I was not overly impressed at how most of them had shed their jacket from just hitting a piece of plywood and skidding across the snow. Most of the other bullets that I recovered where from Core-Lokts and Interlocks and they just mushroomed a bit and tumbled but not the Game Kings. Those all fragged up like a Varmint bullet and lost a lot of thier original weight and size. Needless to say I haven't bought anymore of those.
based on design the SGK is the epitome of a cup and core bullet it cant even be compared to a core junk or interlock which are both locked core type bullet which the SGK is not. They are not my first choice deer fodder but it worked fine on my deer this year dead is dead.

What is that supposed to mean? If you mean that you have your daughter hunting deer with a 55gr bullet then that is just irresponsible. I know that you have got to keep the recoil down, but I just think that a 55gr bullet is way too light and are not intended for shooting game larger than a coyote. If you meant something else, then I apologize.

a .223 poodle popper? sure it can be done but id keep the shots close 100 yards or less. but where i hunt you are most likely to be making 150+ yard shots in mountainous terrain. you want the animal to expire quickly tracking a deer through mountains is alot of work. you want to use a hard hitting caliber IMO atleast a 25-06 on up to a 300 win mag.

irresponsible????!!!!!!! plz!!!!!!
dont be hatin....all these deer dropped in their tracks..didnt go 1 foot!!!!! i cant find the spike pic, that ran 100 yards leavin a red painted trail equiped with neon lighted arrows that my 11 year old found, and used to track all the way to her deer by herself!!!!!

maybe you just need a WW11 cannon..that'll bring em down...better than leavin a deer dead in the woods!!!!

lol..i know texas has big deer right????!!!! lol i havnt seen one , (other than on tv) that was as big as some other states..i alwaz tell people they are small, but certainly i am sure (almost) that there are bigger deer here..but in buffalo texas, yes these were the big does...and of course a spike is not a big deer, but if a 223 can take down a buffalo, it will certainly take down a "big" deer!!!

need a pic?
