On average how much does a box of ammo cost you if you reload it?

I can load premium quality ammo for half the cost of anything I could possibly find on the shelf. If I want to "dumb it down" with core-lokts or similar, it's even cheaper.

Yes, you can reload for semi-auto you just need to understand the importance of full-length sizing and proper headspacing. Your brass will not last as long as a bolt gun where you can usually get away with neck sizing.

As for difficult, it's not too hard to learn the basics. But it is important to understand them before you go trying or you COULD hurt yourself.

Insufferable and doesn't know squat about shooting either. Makes me wonder what the point was of his several thousand posts.

Please forgive BC. He has been is off his lithium for a couple of weeks.

When I reload for my 1911/.45 ACP, I use my own cast bullets. The cost is primers and powder. I have a lot of primers on hand. Let's say that they cost me $0.02 each. Powder at 5 grains a charge is 1400 loads to a pound. At $20 a pound - for powder on hand - that is about a penny and a half a charge. So... one round of .45 ACP costs me about 3.5 cents or $1.75 a box.
If I use jacketed bullets, the cost jumps up about ten cents more per round or about $6.75 /50.
Loading .223 ammo, using Sierra 77s, is about 25 cents a round or $5 a box of twenty.

Man, hang in there. I would say it gets better, but I would be lying.

Especially during hunting season

Also what about other calibers? I'm just trying to figure out if I'd save enough for it to be worthwhile. Is re loading something hard to learn or is it something I can pick up fairly easily?

One other thing is that my rifle seems super picky with ammo and the Fusion ammo is the only kind I've found it seems to really like accuracy wise. Would it be hard to reload something that it likes accuracy wise or should I be able to reload something just fine?

Also can you reload ammo for pumps and semi automatic's? I've heard some say it's no problem and others tell me that you usually can't do it. So I'm wondering what the truth is.
The cost of handloading your own is as different, depending on bullet style as buying factory ammo. The price is all over the place....you have to buy the components right to get the best deal. For most standard center fire rounds between $10 and $20 a box of 20.
Getting started in handloading will cost you $150 and possibly more depending on the quality of the equipment you buy. Sets of dies cost as little as $15 but some are much more.
Your rifle may be far less picky with your handloads than factory fodder.
Don't tell the thousands of guys handloading for their ARs that you can't load for a semi auto...pumps are not a problem either. Brass generally won't last quite as long but its still not a bad deal.

Default Reloading

Reloading your ammo can be fun and save you some money in the long run but you have to know what your doing. The initial set up is not cheap either. If you plan on reloading for a lifetime then it is worth it, I reload all of my .45 ammo and I have fun tweaking with different grain ratios, powder concentrations, etc. I had a lot of misfires when I first started due to lack of expierence.
