What is the difference if any, in Hodgdon, and IMR powder? Example: Hodgdon 4198, and IMR 4198. Are they exactly the same, or is there some different characteristics. I am going to load for my 45-70.

Even though they are both owned by Hodgdon they have different formulations, burn rates, colume densities, etc. H4198 is part of the Hodgdon's Extreme Powder line which is suppose to be less temperature sensitive(cold and hot). You should not sub H for IMR data(receipe) and visa V.
