Default Marlin 1894 44 mag

I can not get this gun to group better than 2 1/2 inches at 50yds. I am using 240 grain bullets with 296 win. powder. Can someone recomend a load that will group in this gun.

Martin

I use 20 gr of 2400 in mine , its a bit slower than win 296 but the accuracy isbetter for me . Are you using open sights or a scope?

I also prefer 2400. I cast my own bullets. I cast a 240 grain RCBS bullet. What bullet are you loading?? What is the diameter of the bullet?? Did you slug your rifle?? To get an accurate load you need to know the answers to these questions. Or you reloads will be hit or miss. Tom.

Exactly, these guns are known to have variations in bore diameter. Slug the bore. Then you'll know what bullet diameter has the best potential to work for you.

I am using a scope, I tried rem. 240 gr.JHP .429 and hornady240 gr. HP/ XTP .430 both with 22 gr. W296. I got some H110 to try. I will be hunting deer and bear and want a hot load. I tried both loads in my Redhawk and ruger semi auto carbine and they were very good. How do you slug the barrel.

Thanks Martin

I'm loading 23.7 gr of H110. 240 gr Hornady XTP. Groups about 3" at 100 yds off the bench.

For me, 2400 is THE 44 mag powder.
