Default Lee collet dies in a progressive press?

I just bought some Lee collet dies, but I'm concerned about the directions, which say to raise the ram, screw in the decapping/sizing dies to touch the base plate, and then screw the die DOWN another turn or so. I'd think this would overstress the hardware (such as my Dillon 550B). Perhaps it's OK for a single stage press where you could "feel" the collet sizing the neck, but with a progressive you want to run the ram all the way up in order to properly charge the powder and seat the bullet.

Comments? Anyone use these dies in a multi-stage press?

Default RE: Lee collet dies in a progressive press?

Remember you need about 25lbs of force to work well with a collet die. I don't know the answer, but my first guess would be, that a dillion should easily handle 25lbs of downward pull to its ram handle. I also use other progressives with pistol cases but could see where this might be an issue with powder, even bullet seating operation. Good luck with it.
