Here is a factory load that has a 300 grain bullet.

I dont think this round is needed on this continent but it would keep down meat damage and certainly ensure penetration.

Considering the 275 swift a frame.....wonder how fast that would be moving......with 250gr should be going about 2900fps....I suppose I can calculate/estimate it.

swift makes the 275gr aframes, but sierra makes a 300gr, but its a match style hollow point bullet, don't think that would be abullet for controlled penetration....
also looks like the 275gr out of the .340 should do about 2750fps.....

I think you may be over analyzing this a little bit. Bison aren't bullet proof, and definately not tough to kill. As long as you can place a decent bullet in the boiler room, its over in a matter of seconds....

When the .338 Win. first came out, Winchester offered a 300-grain load for it as well as a 200 and 250. I am not certain that anyone ever offered a 300-grain bullet for handloading, but Speer at one time did furnish a 275-grainroundnose for the .33's. But it was discontinued years ago. Probably right after Elmer Keith died-don't think anyone else ever bought any!!
I do not know of a 275 or 300-grain .338 bullet available today, either as a component or in a loaded round, except for that Swift-A-frame at $55.00 for 50! I think a .338 solid in 300 grains would make a great load for African game!

Who currently makes 275gr bullets in .338 caliber? what about 300gr?
May be taking a .340wby for bison.....considering loading up for it, otherwise 225/250gr? Any suggestions?

Winchester did sell there 300 grain bullet for reloading too, as i had some of them up untill last year when i sent them to a guy in Canada...
I've used a lot of different lighter .338 bullets, and in my experience, 250's on up should used on the biggest animials...
About those Sierra's: I've used two of the variations that Sierra has made on there 250 grain .338's, and i personally wouldn't use it on DG. The early ones were too soft, and the later ones although tougher were over shadowed by NP's in that weight. The softer "early"250's, sure are big medicine for long range caribou though!
Doesn't Woodleigh (sp?) still offer a 275 grain?
