6.5-06 or 264-win mag?
Just a few questions about the 264-win mag?
What is the parent case of the 264-win mag?
What advantage/edge does the 264 have over the 6.5-06?
Who chambers the 264-win mag?
Does it look like anyone will chamber the 6.5-06?

RE: 6.5-06 or 264-win mag?
Neither? Are you looking to build a rifle or buy a used one? I think the 6.5-284 would be one to consider.....if so. I know you can still find .264 win mag ammo on shelves, though not popular, some guys still love em I know, and I guess are keeping it alive? I've never seen 6.5-06 ammo.
I know the 6.5-284 is quite a popular long range target round......who konws maybe itll be adopted in the future.

What is the parent case of the 264-win mag?
300 Win mag. It is the smallest of all the belted magnums that Winchester introduced.
What advantage/edge does the 264 have over the 6.5-06?
More velocity, about 200 fps with the same bullets.
Who chambers the 264-win mag?
I don't know of any "factory" rifles chambered for this cartridge any more. Although you could easily have a 300 win mag, 7mm rem mag, etc... rebarreled for it.
Does it look like anyone will chamber the 6.5-06?
Doubt it.

The 338 Win MAg is the parent case for the 264 Win Mag, the 300 Win Mag case is a little longer than either the 264 or 338.
You awt ta buy that Rem CDL. Sure they didn't make a whole bunch of those in 264.

RE: 6.5-06 or 264-win mag?
Parent cartridge case is the 458 Win. Mag. This case also spawned the 338 Win. Mag.
The 264 will generate 150-200 fps velocity advantage over the 6.5-06 per bullet weight.
Remington is chambering the 264 Win Mag in the CDL & others are available from the custom shop. A look on GunBroker or Gunsamerica will give you some leads also.
A-Square has given the 6.5-06 factory status. For most an A-Square rifle is out of the price range. Any rifle featuring a 06 length action can be rebarreled to 6.5-06. Properly headstamped brass is available for the 6.5-06 from Midway and other sources. Also, factory ammo is available from A-Square and I think Nosler. The ammo is very expensive at this point. You really don't gain anything over just going with a .270 Win. But if you're like me you like having something different and spending time reloading is a joy. So, either way you decide have fun doing so.
If we all just wanted to kill animals we could just shoot a 30-06 and be done with it. That wouldn't be nearly as fun!

[font=arial][size=2]264 Winchester Magnum History and General Information.
The .264 Winchester Magnum was one of a series of short belted magnums developed by winchester, it was officially introduced to the public in 1959 by winchester.
The 264 winchester magnum is an excellent, accurate, and flat shooting cartridge that is capable of taking any game in the lower 48 states and is one of the more powerful 26 caliber cartridges, when loaded with 140 grain bullets at 3100 fps. it is a very adequate round for deer at 500 yards.
The 264 Winchester magnum has had a reputation as being hard on barrels and will wear out in as few as 500 rounds, back in 1959 this may have been true but we are now into the 21st. century where cryo treating barrels extends the life of barrels considerably and this would include the 264 win.mag. as well.
The 264 winchester magnum when loaded with 129 grain bullets recoil is quite minimal and controllable when loaded with 140 grain bullets the recoil increases quite a bit, a good recoil pad fitted to the rifle will tame the recoil before it gets to your shoulder.
