RE: 6.5-06 or 264-win mag?
Parent cartridge case is the 458 Win. Mag. This case also spawned the 338 Win. Mag.
The 264 will generate 150-200 fps velocity advantage over the 6.5-06 per bullet weight.
Remington is chambering the 264 Win Mag in the CDL & others are available from the custom shop. A look on GunBroker or Gunsamerica will give you some leads also.
A-Square has given the 6.5-06 factory status. For most an A-Square rifle is out of the price range. Any rifle featuring a 06 length action can be rebarreled to 6.5-06. Properly headstamped brass is available for the 6.5-06 from Midway and other sources. Also, factory ammo is available from A-Square and I think Nosler. The ammo is very expensive at this point. You really don't gain anything over just going with a .270 Win. But if you're like me you like having something different and spending time reloading is a joy. So, either way you decide have fun doing so.
If we all just wanted to kill animals we could just shoot a 30-06 and be done with it. That wouldn't be nearly as fun!
