I have no argument with anyone who uses premium bullets for deer. It is very good for the economy. But, in the .243 Winchester, the common, garden variety, Sierra, or Hornady 100 gr., or Speer 105 gr will kill deer very dead, very fast. I am currently experimenting with the 85 gr Sierra hp, but do not yet have enough experience with it to form an opinion.

i was also wondering about some loads for a .243 if anyone uses the 85gr barnes for deer i have read some reviews on people using these bullets out of a .243 wssmbut i was wondering if anybodyhas had any luck on deer with the regular old .243 and how they preformed thanks again
The 85 TSX is a Deer Hammer...

My son made his first three kills last year in Virginia with his .243 Win and 85 TSX's. All three of 'em freight trained, and I was impressed enough to build my own .243 Ackley around that bullet......

Load'em to 3000ish MV in the regular .243 winand sight in for dead on at 250 yards. You can't go wrong if your rifle has a 1:10 twist or faster, andcan group them. His load is 37 grains of RL15, Federal hulls, and bullets seated .050" off the lands. His rifle willshoot cold bore shots into 1-1/4" to 1-3/8"at 250 yards.

He uses the cheaper85 grain Sierra HPBT for varmits and practice with thesame powder charge and slightly longer seating depth. I'll be using the 87 grain Vmax in mine....

I can't remember what grain Barnes it was, 85 or 87 that I shot a few years back. It was their moly coated bullet X bullet, and it killed deer very well. The only problem I had with it was it wouldn't share the same zero as any of my other loads, so I quit using it. It shot 6" Left and 6" higher than all my other loads that shared a real similiar zero.

They shoot 1/4"-1/2" out of my Ackley. They may become my hunting load for under 300 yards...

The Nosler Partitions are the only thing that I ever had any success with in the 243 for deer size game.

With the exception of perfect broad side rib shots that don't require a lot of penetration, i agree 100%...

Back in the 70's when i switched to NP's in my 243, i was amazed how much NP's improved the performance of my .243 on game!
