I have an older 270win ruger m77 that I have shot for years. I reloaded for the 270win useing 130gr sierra gamekings. I really liked the performance of that bullet. expanded very well on whitetails out to 300yrds. can I use the same powder and load in the 270wsm as I did in my older 270win. The powder I was useing was AA3100. I know I dont dare push that specific bullet faster than 3000fps. so if I keep the 130 sierra under that volocity in the wsm will that be ok. Thanks Steve

Case capacity is different. I would move up to a 140 grain with the wsm and a mag primer for the larger case capacity and the use of a slower burn rate powder such as AA3100. I've never loaded AA 3100 but it has a similar burn rate to IMR 4831. If you really are going to get the potential out of WSM and want to stay with the 130 bullet you should consider a premium grade bullet that can perform better at higher velocity. I'm suspecting you have an inventory of the 130 sierra gamekings. I've used gamekings in a 25-06 at max velocity and found them to be great bullets for the price. Even used the 117 on elk on 3 or 4 occasions out of the 25 with good results. But for a few $ more you really have some better alternatives for the wsm velocity.

Can you use the same powder and load as the 270Win, NO. Can you use the same powder(AA 3100) and the same bullet, Yes. You just have to use 270WSM load data (powder charge).
