Default Good Starting point for Accurate .308 win. Loads?

I haven't been able to acquire a manual yet. Everywhere I go they are out. I have gotten some info off the internet from Hogdon and Winchester. But I wanted to know from those with experience is there any general loads known to be accurate for most handloaders in the .308 win. cal. to start me off on a roll? If so what powders, how much , bullet etc. Thanks. Also how much neck tension should these bullets have on them when seated?

I reload 150gr Hornady SST's for deer. The most accurate load I found is 48.0gr(compressed load) of IMR 4064 and Remington 9 1/2 primers...WORK UP TO THIS LOAD! Bullet works execelent on deer. And find a manual ASAP...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Sorry, you lost me on the &quot;neck tension&quot; thing!

Hunt Safe!

I have had good luck with IMR 3031 and Sierra 150 grain Gamekings. You can get load data at www.imrpowder.com

I also use IMR 4064 with a speer 150 gr mag tip. My rifle likes a mid range load 46.2 grains. 43 to 48 grains is the range for the IMR 4064, and like pajack states start low and go up by .5 increments untill you find a ball park load where the rifle shoots well. Then you can work up and down by .1 grains to fine tune. Do not exceed 48.0 grains for this powder and bullet combination! Try Ebay or cabellas if you can't find a mannual

Whiteymin,
here is one of my favorites:

WEAPON Remington 788

CASE
MAKE Winchester ( 167gr +/- 1gr )
CALIBER 308
HEAD STAMP 308
TRIM LENGTH 2.015
OVER-ALL LENGTH 2.755

BULLET
MAKE Sierra
WEIGHT 150gr
TYPE SPITZER (2130)
DIAMETER .308
BALLISTIC COEFFICIENT .387

POWDER
MAKE Hodgdon
TYPE H335
CHARGE WEIGHT 45.4
PRIMER CCI 200 large rifle
WAD NONE

BALLISTICS
MUZZLE VELOCITY 2682
SIGHT-IN RANGE 100yd’s
GROUP SIZE .75&quot; at 100yd
EXTREME SPREAD 64.6
STANDARD DEVIATION 19.8

Consistent in fairly wide temperature swings and altitudes. It's not a speed demon but it shoots all day long into quarter size holes.

I partial size with a rcbs fl die so that the shoulder doesn't bump and the neck sizes about half way down 3/16&quot;. I load 125 gr nosler balistic tips with 51.5 gr w748 and a federal 210 primer. 1/2&quot; groups at 100 yards with a thompson encore 15&quot; pistol, 2800 fps.

My rifle prefers 41.0 gr 4064 with 165 gr. hornady interlock or nosler partition, but every rifle is different.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms... who's bringing the chips?
