bigcountry. This is the White House calling. Factory 7mm rum ammo will drop 25.7" at 500 yrd with a 250 yrd zero and a 140.g NP. I wont scoff. Any advice you can give with the 300 rum I'll be thankfull.

StoneCold-We are more than willing to help. When you told your story I merely mentioned that you should set up targets and check your trajectory as the numbers you quoted could not possibly be correct. You brought on the attitude in response to my reply to you.Attitude is usually responded to in kind.
CaptRay-I also have two 300 rum rifles and find that with 165gr bullets the trajectory is almost identical to the 7mm rum with 140gr bullets. In both cases the bullets are ballistic tips and the loads are handloads.

Capt, your probabley right. I don't shoot the 7mmRUM but the .300RUM. What kinda advise are you looking for with your 300RUM. My load that shoot is 180 Nosler PT with 94gr of H1000 and 215 primer loaded out to 3.625COL. Its not the most accurate, but my main load. My most accurate so far was been 90gr of H1000 with 200gr A-frames with 215 Primer. But who can afford those bullets. Most of the .300 RUM's I have seen seem to shoot heavier bullets better.

bigcountry, looking for a load for the 300 rum with a bullet weight of around 165g. will be using the loads this spring to hunt wild boars in the rolling hills of vandenburg airforce base. very long shots with little to no wind and an altitude of around 6000 ft. thanks.

Capt Ray- I have had the best luck with r-22 or h-1000 when using 165gr bullets.

bigcountry, I did a load using RL 22, 98.5 g, but using a 125 g bullet, pushing around 3680 fps. any info using IMR 4350, IMR 7828 with the 150 g NBT? I did like the performance of the r 22 125g, but a little light for the larger hogs at the ranges encountered.

Entertaining thread!

Have you guys compared h1000 and rl 22 to rl 25? I'm curious b/c that is all I've loaded with for my 300 rum, and got sub moa groups last night with 96.5gr of rl 25 with cheap 180 sierras. I don't have a chrono! I'm trying to decide if I should try some other powders, as my results have been less consistant that I wanted.

Also, my oal is limited to 3.61 b/c they won't fit into the mag of my a-bolt otherwise. I'm not seating them as far out as I would like. Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks
Mike

Capt, nope can't help ya there. I have only shot 180g and 200gr bullets out of my 300RUM. I reserve the Re25 and Retumbo for 200gr and use H1000, and use 4350 and H1000 and Re22 for 180.

How is your accuracy with 125gr bullets? I thought that 1 in 10 twist might be a little much for that. I bet that sucker is movin on.

Mike, to answer your question, if re25 works for you, then besides retumbo you got one of the slowest powder you could use and probably getting close to the highest velocity you can get. I say stick with it. I didn't have good luck with it. I only tried it with on bullet. But H1000 does the best for me.

bigcountry, thanks for the reply. Been out defending our country. I think you may be on to something. The accuracy wasn't what I expected although the velocity was good (3680 fps). Thinking about going to 90g of 4350. Hunting this week end with 150 NBT and 87g of 4350 and 9 1/2M. Think it would help going with the 90g of 4350 (125 NBT) or is it a lost cause?
