Think I am going to start with either 3031 or 4064 with 170gr hornady FP.
I always figured it was a waste of time to load 30-30, as I rarely shoot it, but these dies have been here for years, never used, and winter is comeing so have a toy to play with.

I have been loading 150gr rnft bullet with 30gr of 4064 powder. It shoots better than it was with box ammo at 50 yards. Havent done much sighting at at 100 yards since I cannot see well enough to do that at 100 yards with the open sights that are on the gun lol.

I inherited some of my grandpa's old reloading stuff, mainly storage boxes etc. and in some of the cases was all of his 30-30 stuff he always used 4064 per his data sheets.

BigCountry, I have loaded many 30-30 rounds and the best I have found to shoot in my Marlin 336 with the micro grove barrel is Hornady 170gr. flat points, IMR 3031 28.0gr. forget off hand on the primers (i'll get back on that and the C.O.L.) all cases are F.L. sized andtrimmed to max length. That load in my gunwill constantly put 3 shot groups in a 1" orange dot if I do my part.

I used to have one of those savages and I used it as a trade in last year. Now I am thinking about getting another one for that very same reason, being able to use spire point bullets in lt. Anyways, I really enjoy shooting the 30-30 and love the idea of using a gun that most others tend to overlook, thinking that it just isnt up to the task of taking a deer anymore, for whatever reason. Not to mention that it is much easier on me to pack around.

I rechamber a lot of the 30-30 single shots and lever actions to the 30-30 Ackley Improved and have found both H-4895 and Winchesters 748 powder to give the best velocity and accuracy. I also use 375 Winchester brass that I size down in a regular 30-30 size die. Using this brass for the 30-30 Win., I can get around 10-15 loadings per case and a good 20 loadings per case by going to the "improved" case design. This also depends on the loadings....
