Well, sometimes there is no "perfect" right answer. All of us on this page usually just builds on our own experience. I can see where you have got your idea on the WSM, and why I have. And if I put that much money in a rifle stubble does, I would demand the gun make one ragged hole or beat my smith over the head with it.

bigcountry - I agree with you totally on the increasing load comment. I was deciding between Barnes TSX and Accubonds in 200 gr. Both bullets were shooting very good until I started approaching max. Its when I hit the max. listed load that the Barnes started going a bit erratic while the Accubonds are still shooting tight groups with no signs of excessive pressure. Right now I am pushing the 200 gr Accubond at what the data list as 2905 fps while still maintaining sub MOA groups. I think this is where I am going to stay for a while until I see how this load performs at 300 yds.

200gr at 2900 in a WSM is pretty impressive. I think I was only getting 3100fps with 200gr accubonds in my 300RUM. With alot more powder.

Yes, its impressive at both ends. Although tolerable, when that little Micro Hunter goes off, I know it. I'm glad I got a Burris Short Mag scope for it. The extra eye relief is going to help. Especially if shooting prone and up hill. I don't like the outcome when scope meets eyebrow. It only happened once with a 300 Win Mag and that was enough.

bronko. Which model of Short Mag scope do you have?

Had the .270 WSM in a Browning Stalker. It was a real tack driver. Am now thinking about getting a Browning BLR in the new .325 WSM.

James - The scope I got is the burris Short Mag 3-9X with ballistic plex. This is my fourth Burris scope with the ballistic plex. The other 3 are Fullfield II scopes in 3-9X. I really like this reticle and when sighted in according to the instructions, it is pretty accurate.

The theroy goes like this. Shorter stiffer actions that wsm's utilize along with all short actions are more accurate. Also, with the shorter powder column which is closer to the primer uses burns the powder more efficiently and realizes less recoilper fps developed.

Is any of this to say long actions are not accurate? NO....but look at the cartridges that are used by the bench, and high power and other target rifle shooters and you will see the vast majority are using short action rounds. There is a reason for that.

There is a lot that goes into making a rifle accurate but also todays production rifles are more accurate than many from the past as well.

What I believe is that there is a greater margin of accuracy with a short mag than a standard long action magnum. Meaning it is easier to find a wide array of ammo that shoots well through a short mag than through a long mag.

I have a 300 wsm, and a 270 wsm, and also have a couple of 300 std win mags. It took a lot more of a process to find the loads that my std mags like while it seems most loads I try in my wsm's shoot well.

While ballistics are a science they are also a lot of theroy.
