Default 338 loads

Just curious as to what loads 338 shooters are using. Powder and bullets?

I have a friend who uses nothing but the 210 gr. Nosler Partition ahead of a healthy charge of IMR 4350. Everthing from whitetails to moose has fallen to this load.

Nosler Accubond 225 gr. with RL-22. I use this in the 338 RUM and my uncle uses it in the 338 WIN

I have been developing loads for a new Ruger M77 in .338WM. I am loading 180gr. Nosler Accubonds, and some 185gr. Barnes X-bullets. I have loaded all of them with IMR4350. I loaded 6ea. in 1gr. increments from min to max, and have only had the opportunity to shoot the first four strings of the Noslers. The min. gr. of 71 didn't shoot well at all, but the accuracy started to improve noticably at 73 and 74 gr. I am still going to shoot the Nosler max loads at 75 to see how they are.

After reading about some guys not having the Barnes bullets expand on animals I don't think I will continue with them.

I was looking for a lighter bullet to shoot for Mule Deer, and will develop a 200 or 210 grain load for Elk and Moose.

I load my .338 lapua in 225 gr SST from Hornandy with H4351 powder charged at 89.4. But, I am going to use Federal this year, and the new hornady 250 gr. BTHP when I can get my hands on it.

210 NP's work just fine in mule deer, soyou really don't need a lighter bullet for your needs...
