ORIGINAL: crimedog

Was looking at Cabelas and all the reloading stuff is on sale, I need some brass and usually buy Hornady, but it's expensive. Winchester and Remington is half the price of Hornady, but hows the quality?
I like Norma, RWS, Winchester, and Remington brass as well as U.S. GI Match cases. I haven't tried the Hornady stuff, but in some military calibers, (such as7.7 Jap, 7.65X53 Argentine, 6.5X50 Arisaka, 6.5X52 Carcano, 7.5X55 Swiss, etc.,) it is the only game in town, unless you want to pay triple for Norma brass in these calibers. Graf's sells brass in the same calibers, but I think it is Hornady. Lapua makes excellent brass also. I have not tried S&B or Hirtenberger, but have seen some negative comments about these two brands.

I like Lapua brass. Cross section and compare it with anything else and you'll see why.

I've found Winchester cases to be the most consistent and better made. When prepped properly, IMHO, there is none better. And a whole lot of 'em that are alot worse.

I prefer Norma brass over all others. You can take Winchester or Remington brass- sort it by weight, outside neck turn it, ream the flash holes and primer pockets, etc; and make it as good as Norma. Or just pay about 50% more for the Norma. And Federal brass?? I wouldn't risk injury to my back to bend over and pick it up. Roscoe

I use Winchester and Remington brass if I buy new. Never had any problems with it. I would like to get to trying some Norma or Lapua brass eventually.

Recently tried some Lapua brass...not the cheapest but that's what I'll be buying whenever it's in the caliber I need!!!

crimedog, check out Wholesale Hunters price on Hornady brass. Much more reasonable than Cabela's.
