What powder for 7mm Rem mag - thoughts?

RE: What powder for 7mm Rem mag
Thanks guys. Iloaded somewith IMR 4831(63grs)under the 150 gr Nosler Parts, thinking about trying a few load combos for eval just can't make up my mind if I should go up/down by 1 or just see how these fly first. I also have some 160 AB's from last year, so may load some of them as well for comparison after I give the parts a run.
Any opinions on load for the IMR 4831 and 150gr Part? Terry what are using with the 160 AB's?

Well I have hit the range a few times found the 150gr NP with 63 or 64 gr 4831, did quite nicely. I also tried some Barnes TSX 140gr/BT behind 65 to 69 grains of RL 22, last evening. In the case of the Barnes TSX the 69gr loadproduced the best groups of the bunch all driving 1" or better 3 shot groups. However I experienceda sticky bolt, meanwhile the cases showed no real pressure concerns. Didn't matter which load the first was somewhat tight, 2nd was increased and the following were real tight to almost excessive. It was warm 80 degrees range, so I am sure that may contribute some but the others I was shooting with didn't experience a problem. Needless to say the gun went to my smith this morning for a polish and once over. He checked my brass and agreed I was ok, but thought possible the barnes were part of the trouble. Any thoughts?
I tried .020 - .050 seating depth, neither made a difference to function of the bolt. However the .020 off the lands produced the best groups in all the loads I tried.
BTW, my scale is verified/caliberated, my gun was clean as usual..seemed everything was normal other than spent cases didn't want to eject!

I don't load for the 7mm RM, but I do have something to say about primers in general. I've always followed the general idea that if you are loading more than 60 grains of powder you should use a magnum primer. Based solely on the fact that they are hotter and ignite large amounts of powder 'better' in my opinion. I've heard/seen this more than a few places and practice it myself. I can't say for sure if there's any merit to it, but it makes sense to me so I do it. Just my $0.02.

I like H-4831 for my 7mag., 257mag., 240mag., and 270..I do like H-4831. I have given RL-22 some serious attempts..because so many people seem to like it but can't get it to shoot like I can the H-4831. Even had my Wby 257mag. Ultra lightweight lock up using under max RL-22 and Barnes 100gr. XLC's. Had to open the bolt with a 2x4. I'm wondering if RL-22 is a little more heat sensitive...where I shoot it can be high 90's to 100's.

Ifly, I was wondering the same thing but I found out my gunsmith found some reamer marks in the chambering from the machining at the factory.Yesterday I shot several loads including upto 69.5 gr of RL22 with the 140 TSX and experienced no problems ejecting spent cases. The temperature was closer to 90 and extremely humid to boot. So at least in my case I think the problem was not the RL22 or barnes but rather the rifle.
Both the TSX and RL22 powder continue to shoot well out of this rifle, so I am pleased.

It could have been an OAL problem..the X bullets were giving me fits trying to get any size to shoot in that 257..and as a matter of fact..never did get any of them to shoot like I wanted. I'm going to have to try the Triple Shock in it when I get around to it.
