I was pricing out Leica range finders today and called Cabelas to get a quote and the girl told me they can't ship them in Canada. This is a rangefinder not a rifle scope and they are available here in Canada I told her. Sorry. Man do I hate those morons in Ottawa. Chretien did this to us that crooked piece of dung!!!!!

I’m sure happy Cabela’s in only 2 hours south from the city. I don’t have to put up with that bull.

I will never stand for the Liberal legacy, but they did not do this. It's called lazyness. They don't wan't to ship that to you because they are either too ignorant or just plain lazy. I would try to contact them again, and my bet is if you get someone who's not wanting to go home, they will get it out to you. The other problem is that some people just don't know, and won't ask questions, so they will tell you "no, we can't do that" that's the ignorance part.

Pharaoh2,
The range finders are listed in the computer as restricted to Canada. They have them in that category that includes anything related to a firearm like rifle scopes.

Really? This is most interesting. THan my advice would be to buy elsewhere. Why support a company who won't support it's clients?

First off the US intiated a trade agreement post 9/11 to halt shippments from stores (cabelas, etc) out of the USA that would be deemed to improve a firearm (ie gun parts, scopes and yes rangefinders). Now who do you think the only country to sign it was.....CANADA! The libs and their gun control love were all to happy to appease the US government...so your right to blame the Fibs but also thank Mr. Bush while doing so. I heard a story of a guy wanting to buy a Leupold scope from Bear Basin the CS agent said I can ship a scope to Afghan with Bin Landen on it but can't ship you a scope to Canada...makes perfect sense doesn't it!!!!

Terry not sure which model your looking for but $650 for the 900 LRF is the going rate around here. According to my cabela's cat. it sells for 440USD once you convert, pay shipping , duty and taxes it would cost you more in the end buying through the US plus the god aweful delays that come of anything that must clear customs. I am still waiting for a scope that was shipped July 28th, this was a warranty repair by Bushnell. I have called CC on 2 occasions and they have said the it can take anywhere from 1 - 8 weeks to receive items from the US. Another option is ebay, person to person is supposedly exempt from the above trade agreement according to Canadian Customs but be prepared to wait a while for clearance of such an item. However before you buy I'd call and double check b/c they seem to change the rules without notice.

Skeeter,
Actually the best price I found so far is mail order through "Russels". We don't pay provincial tax so freight in it would be as you say around 650 bucks. That 100 dolars cheaper than Lebarons here in Toronto. Curious about your Bushnell Dilemma. We have a service depot in Markham Ontario and they give great service. I recently brought in a busted spotting scope ( my fault big time, kid caught it in a car door). It could not be repaired so they sold me a brand new including tripod and aluminum storage case comparable model for 60 dollars. Was really impressed. I am also wondering about buying a bushnell rangefinder, they are around 200 bucks cheaper. Haven't made up my mind, played with the leica this week and the optics are fabulous!

Terry, as far as my situation goes Bushnell stated that their is nothing they could do as it is in the hands of customs & customs states it a process and being firearm related it may cause minor delays they use the tag line it should take no longer than 6 weeks but who knows. The scope is a B&L Elite about 6 years old worked fine but my daughter was in my hunting room and dropped it on the floor which caused damage to the housing, instead of dicking around I decided I'd send it back to bushnell. They were slow but decided to replace it with a 3200 elite, no reason given just were sending me a new scope. It is not being used so no real panic just relaying info on potential headaches with Customs.

I have a Bushnell Pro Scout LRF it works for my application which is ranging distances upon setting up (mostly a bow tool but i do use it for ML and Rifle). My hunting partner has the 900 Lieca and it is world of difference in quality, clarity and the red LED display is much better than bushnell or nikons black read out (especially low light). I have suggested it many times before if you plan on using your rangefinder for ranging on animals the Lieca is the only one to consider, if you use it as a bow hunter or like I do the Bushnell will suffice very nicely. The thing I really like is the Scout size, small enough it and my GPS fit in a small compartment in my fanny pack...however this comes with a disadvantage for the holding on game thing as well, being a one hander it is a bit tough to hold steady on distanced game. Face it nobody is going to range a buck or bull at 200 or under with rifle in their hands but when they are stretching out that is when you want to get a quick read on where to place the hairs to make a good shot, these compacts lose function if this is your usage model. Just saying be realistic with what you want out of LRF, it is always cheaper to buy 1 vs 2!

Good luck in your decision!
