I hope you guys that make the trip can let us know how it goes. We're booked for Dec 11 and not real sure about finding antlers that late. Have any of you rented skidoos on the hunt? With my physique I may not be too bouyant on 4 feet of snow!

Hey Jlucky, Honeoye is nice I work down there on occasion, good deer country. 4 wheelers might be useful but, they are a pain to haul up there. and in 4 other trips I can not imagine having any use for them that would not have been more trouble then they are worth. If it does not get colder you won’t be able to get on the ice and the rocks make 4 wheeling difficult. I would recommend fairly durable sleds, rope, and bungee cords. We took up otter sleds, life saver. we will let everyone know our results.

Just checked the maps, the latest map Oct 31st to Nov 7th shows the first group of boos barely east of Lac Bienville. I was trying to figure how far that is from camp Kisk, about 150 km. Some of the boos moved 150 km last week, most a little less and some more. Most of them are 150 km above Lac Bienville. I hope this bodes well for all of us, worried they blow through like 2 years ago. Any thoughts form you all.

Compared to 2010 they are still up further and still spread across the LRV. I think the positioning is good and it looks much like 2007 - easterly migration usually works well to have animals milling north and south of the TRR - Laforge Thurnpike and TTR east towards LA2. When the migration is west - they need to get around LG3/4 and this usually pushed them well into 22A and all we see are straglers comming down along the 22A/22B border - this was 2008/2009.
I think if you are in the 15 NOV leg you will see the first of the main migration before your hunt ends above Kisk and to the east of LA1. The TTR @ Laforge and east should be good until first week of Dec if the weather holds. Nothing is frozen yet and snow has not come - forcast is for ~ -5 to -7 after 20 NOV which will bring some ice. Based on the weather now I think they will come down slow since there is plenty of browse once they hit the tree line and cover. I think Kisk folks will have a short ride to a great hunt.

Thanks for the reply, the herd is straight above laforge 1 and if they slow down the hunt should be very good. This is our 4th hunt with kiskimaastakin they are great people to work with, if it true about the reduced numbers in the herd why would they want us to shoot a cow or calf, interesting.
jlucky, as for your equipment at 381 do not make anything easy access, we have not lost anything there, but friends of ours have.

K381 is OK with a locked vehicle - do not leave any thing easy to swipe in the bed or it will be gone - local are thick in this area and if you go out in the middle of the night you will see them wandering around - looking for open trucks. Lock your room door also when you go for dinner or out at all - you will see them comming in the buildings to see who is staying.
We drive straight in now - too many years staying at K381.

Thanks! You guys have been a lot of help lots of usefull info. I am rethinking my stay at 381 and might stay at Matagami. I hear there is a storm moving across hopefully it will get them moving towards Mirage. how far is that area where the boos are at from Mirage? Is it somewhere I could drive to?
