I just heard today on the Canadian radio station that there were going to be some major changes in Canada's firearms laws, and that the gun owners of Canada would be VERY happy with the changes. I am unable to find any details, and wondered if any of Canadian citizens heard anything more. The radio station didnt go in to great detail, but stated that the gun registration for us "nonresidents" probably wouldnt change much, but the Canadian gun owners would feel a relaxing grip. Any input?

Yeah, Martin said the program is going to be reviwed but he still believes in a registration program. Doesn't really sound like they are going to do anything serious about it.

I work on a gun counter here in the great white north. we deal with this Liberal crap all day. Yesterday, I recieved a fax from the firearms center. On this, it stated that we, as a buisiness can no longer possess anything unregistered.(Consignment guns) which we were able to before under a special clause in that damn bill. We would have to register everything before it left the store, but we could still have it. Now, get this. according to this letter, any firearm that is unregistered, can no longer be registered by us, for any reason. BUT, (this is where it gets good) if we have the consent of the owner, we can register any non-registered firearms, and continue as normal! The drawback, is if any owner wants to pick up his gun, we have to register it, even though we can no longer register, blah blah blah. Confused yet? Now the catch-22. If the owner refuses to register the guns, we are instructed to "return the firearm to the owner disabled in which it is no longer defined as a firearm." anotherwords destroy the firearms before the owner gets it. I cant see that making many gunowners happy with this more relaxed grip. And unfortunatlly, I don't see an end in the future. The Liberals made a mistake. They won't admit it. And by disbanding, or even lossening up on the bill would admit a mistake. This ones to big to cover up. Take care.

I heard some Liberal MP yesterday talking about this on NW or CBC. His name is Paul something Stecle? Doesn't sound quite right. Anyway he was talking about how useless the registery is, and how it should be eliminated. He felt we should concentrate our efforts elsewhere. No kidding he was talking about agressive enforcement of safe storage. You know police searches, he mentioned that Sportsmen would be happy to rat out their friends if we knew they didn't safely store. This guy is presumably the untimate back bencher, I haven't ever heard of him before. But it does raise the question of even if they do destroy the registry, what will they then saddle us with. The registry is finaly implemented, people have taken the courses, registered their firearms, or gotten rid of their collections. Maybe the least harm is to let it all lie. Maybe not given the fact that many haven't registered, and may still need relief.

The Canadian system is to overlap gun intitatives one on top of the other, never resting, so how do the gun grabers extend their reach now, what is their next step?


While safe storage is a rational enough idea, it is also the most damaging legislation passed in the last 30 years for gun users (thank conservatives). It essentialy reduces the legitimate uses of a fiream to zerro, more enforcement shouldn't be something we look forward to. It isn't the registry that makes it illegal for you to have a loaded gun in case intruders or foxes make a visit... Once we reduce firearms legitimate uses to sport, there isn't any reason why they shouldn't be product managed, and there are lots of "unsafe" products that are banned in Canada at ministerial will.

Right at the moment we have one of the biggest victories the gun lobby has ever posted: Most now see the registry as a failure. That's massive, our opponents are worried. It's also a dangerous time.

All I know is the this gun law is no good for any of us hunters, if they continue to put more restrictions on us as the years go bye we are going to have to become criminals ourselves. I was talking to someone in politics and their long term plan according to what he's heard is they want to have a big storage facility for peoples guns and that you would have to notify them like a week in advance if you want your gun now thats insane if its true but Iwould not be surprised if it was proposed. Anyways if something ridiculous happens my guns we be declared stolen and I wil continue hunting and so should all gun owners one big declaration of stolen guns, let them deal with all us new criminals. I always voted liberal not this time, I will vote for someone else. Good luck

The price has gone up ,,,I payed $10.00 for 5 years at one time years ago. This is never going away, all gun owners are Criminals just the goverment has not done the paper work on ya yet. I can tell stories that would make a died man turn in his grave about this Gun issue , but won't say anything on the net because of the sake of the Gun owners and hunters. There's more going on then anyone knows...BT
