Hey guys, I hopeeveryone is getting some kind ofhunting done!I'vehad 2 shots (whitetails)with my new Vectrix, and 2 doe to my credit so far. Can't wait for the rut.
I was wondering what size rack a typical whitetail buck will have for his first and second year in Alberta? Generally.

Thanks again guys,

My old man is coming up tommorow and we plan to hunt whitetails all next week. Should be a good time, i'm looking forward to getting back at it after a bit of a break to deal with the moose chores.

Early, I've seen anything from spikes to 5x5 yearlings up here. By 2yrs they've generally started to display their true potential. Most deer in this neck of the woods would be typical 4x4 or 5x5's by year two but still way less than 100inches of antler and a spread even with or inside their ears.

Awesome moose Saska!

I am heading to alberta and then sask this year - thats really bad news about the CWD program and its spread.

I thought it was somewhat containable with proper eradication techniques?
I wonder if/why it will spread into BC. I have heard that because of how spread out deer populations are here it wont hit us bad, but I think thats speculation.

Have been out a few times, and have been seeing LOTs of young bucks, only one 170ish that didnt present a chance. only baby buck whitetails so far as well.

Great to hear you guys are getting out lots.
Is there a website I can read a bit about the sask CWD issues?

Have a great thanksgiving guys!

AG, you can get info from SERM's website. Since they are handling/controlling CWD in the province the most likely source for sask. I wonder 10-15 years ago if they had sampling testing what they would have found? Call me skeptical, but I'm not on board with eradication across the board or a free for all!

Made it out yesterday, weather was moist but it wasn'ta bad day.Started with filling a Mule Deer Doe tag, then a back shoot on waterfowl (pard and I got a limit of specs -8, 3 canada's, 4 snows, 2 pintails and3 mallards) and then wound are way back to the city picking upsome sharptails and huns. Saw 2 bull moose on the drive home, as well as the most snow geese I have seen in one spot 1000's on 1000's it was wild.

Last evening I spent in the blind but only women, children and young men were seen.

Except for my new canon camera pulling a DOA[:@] it was a great day. My pard got some snaps, post some of the events through his lens when he sends them my way. BTW I hate camera's, this is my 3rd digital to give me troubles. OK 1 was my fault by bailing in the creek off a quad but theother 2....?????[:'(] WTF!!!

Keep on keeping on fellas...hope you had some success

Some live game pics from yesterday in the field. Bull moose trotting in wheat stubble. Not really moose habitat as you can see!

Seen a few groups of lopers this guy had his small group of does and was content just to sit it out. Not very big but different horn on the right side.

Successful backshoot on waterfowl. Sorry about the pic, as you can tell plucking was underway so I snipped out the carnage...
