I use the Bear/Jennings models and have been very happy with my success. I also use the 2 blade broadhead in the heavey weight, my range is not as good as others but the damage is extremely effective. Good Luck!

Is an X-bow considerred a bow in the provinces you hunt?

Ontario it is, and Ill bet 50% of the guys are using them during deer and moose archery seasons and having lots of success with them.

Hi
I would check to see if you have a dealer near you that sells Forge Bows they are very forgiving, have littlehand shock, great customer support and veryeasy on the wallet compared to most of that quality. They are a very accurate and durable hunting bow.

SwampTHING, here a x-bow can not be used in archery season, just ML and Rifle.

Skeeter
All the advice is good my friend, I'm buying the new Guardian as soon as it get's to Canada by Bowtech ,supposedly takes all the shock out of shooting and also is still fast as in 335fps. I shoot a Bowtech Patriot right nowand love it. I've shot the Hoyt Razor and you can't go wrong their either, wieght is a factor here too. It's almost a pound heavier than the Mathews Switchback and Bowtech models. Get a night out and do a shoot atthe local lanes and get the guys to shoot the different bow'savailable and allow them to make the decision on which model to purchase. Mathews has been here forever and has been a leader in bows since their inception,so you can't go wrong with one of their products.
Bowtech Guardian : $ 799.00
Mathews Switchback:$ 899.00
Hoyt Razor : $ 779.00
Prices are all barebone bows
Good luck with your freind's Skeeter, remember their all we'll have ,enjoy them while where here, lifes too short. Good luck and God Bless.

I think find a bow that fits and feels good in your hands then worry about the price.....alot of people get hooked on the name thing. I've shot all the bows in 2005 when i bought mine and believe it or not I bought a lower end bow. Had all the top end stuff on it just the riser was cast instead of alunium (sp)........also look and year old modles that are not current modles.

Bottom line is a $200 bow will make a bull just as dead as a $1200 one. If you put the arrow in the right spot. Might make a bit more noise or have a bit more hand shock. But for 1st time archers I dont think spending money on a top end bow is practical??

my 2 pennies
