2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!

As promised, here are some pics of my finds from saturday.

Also here's a pleasant surprise from yesterday. I was out walking a new area with the dog and came up empty. However, the drive home produced my first ever moose shed. I spotted it laying about 15yards from the road as i came barreling down into a river valley. earlier in the day I had seen a bull moose that had recently shed his left antler (still bright red with blood). I'm pretty sure this is his right side as it wasn't far from where I saw him. I'll go back this weekend and look for the match.

Thanks Hia. Do you find most of your moose sheds in the same areas as the deer sheds?I really haven't had much luck with them the last few years. I might just be focusing on the wrong places.

I seriously do have a horseshoe up my arse when it comes to moose sheds. I loveit too cause i find them far more intersting than deer sheds. 99.9% of the moose sheds i find are near water sources weather that be a slough, river pond etc. I had a pretty good run this past year. I found a nice shed early in the spring near a sloughthen found a 50 inch bull that had been killed back deep in the park next to the river.Skull, and paddles were all bleached but i tied it to my back and hauled er out. Then while poking around by the river back in the park this summer i found a reeeealllly nice set of brown 40 inchers laying right on my trail. and finally while home over christams i found a little paddle while waking the edge of a slough. I don't think it is the water its the young red willows and grub that hangs around the watery areas that hold the moose there.

Sounds like a good problem to have!
The one thing my time in the helicopter last week taught me was that those buggers can be anywhere and they're rarely more than 2 or three on the same quarter. However, I think you're right about the browse being betterin the wet areas, same goes for cutblocks I guess.
I find them more interesting too, probably because they're so hard to find (at least for me).

Awesome thread guys - I've been silently following along this one for a while. Nice pictures, and lots of experienced whitetail knowledge flying around on here. I just read the whole thing again - you all owe my employer $50 in lost time. LOL
One of these years I'll be allowed to get out to play and get my sorry arseup to Canada and chase the whities around with you h0nkeys.[8D] For now, stuck in this office buried behind a wall of files.

Nice find Sask...looks like the snow is still pretty deep up there! Were almost dry in Cowtown...I'm hoping to get out soon and look for some bone in my spots.
Quicksilver...that's classic!! I'm sure I owe my employer too but when you take into account the "good mood" it puts me in after reading the thread. I'm sure it makes up in work tenfold

Yes this is a bit addicting probably lowered each of my grades by 10 percent but who wants to be a keener anyways.
Sask i agree they are spread out alot more than say elk or deer. Especially around my farm we have very very few although they are making a slow come back. North of me about 15 miles there has been an explosion of them again which is great to see. No season open on them yet in the farmland which does not hurt my feelings any. I would like to see the population rise a bit more before they consider opening the season back up again. Looks like we have yet another wet spring coming which is great for the moose pops, back for the farmers. They are not a crop damage issue other than they walk through my potato patch on occasion lol. I just love seeing the critters around.

Glad to see this thread still going strong. I'm eating tag soup for white tails this year, but I did tag out on a northern quebec winter caribou hunt, for those of you that don't check in on that thread heres a pic:
