Here is a question for you fellas. What do you think of the decoy tatic?
Personally i don't mind it because i know they will never bust me over anything like that. Like i told you skeeter i had that 190'er in my scope last year and lettem go due to shooting time, and another close to that i let walk because i needed permission due to a farmyard near by. I know it provokes people and is almost like baiting but it really shouldn't make a difference how big the deer is. If your shooting one that isn't legal chances are you have done it in the past and will do it sometime again so your due for a fine. I dunno same with sending in minors to shops to buy smokes and booze then fining the store, it is baiting but like a midget at a urinal ya gotta be on your toes all the time.Think i just figured out how to weed some of the road hunters out of my land. ;)Whats your take on the strategy jeff?

Dan, I'd be all for it if they employeed the decoy throughout the season vs hardcore in the fading days!! No excuse but it seems they are playing ona natural human fault. WhileI thinkit could be argued as "entrapment" if somebody wanted to take it that far. I have no problems with them using the technique just wish they'd use it other than the last few days.

I think it's great because there's really not a lot of ways to catch guys doing that stuff other than a decoy. Remember it has to be proven in court. i know the F&W guys here have to abandon a lot of cases bc they cannot prove 100% that it happened even though they know d*mn well it did.

As for timing, I agree the last day is likely to tempt more guys that wouldn't normally do it but still by my count they're breaking at least 5 laws: Shooting at night, from a road, from a vehicle, in a closed season, and on posted land. It would be great to see them out all season but with budgets what they are I imagine they wait till they can get the most convictions for their dollars.

Hia, have you ever seen Crocodile Dundee when the kangaroo starts shooting back. :D You could probably have some fun with that on your land:D;)

Hang'em 2 dry,I lost my 200 + buck this year to some poachers and they didn't even get a slap on the hand. Alberta is so depleted on wardens,it's a joke. But heck if they can get'em, get'em. On another property I hunt another guy was trying to poach but I put an end to his hunt pretty quick with an arrow pointed at his heart at 5 yards. He got the point and was just a kid, but you need to make a point of these guys cause they'll just keep coming back. Decoy the crapout of them. One for the Warden if they can get out:D

I hope you don't equate my response to this decoy question as me not wanting violators to be punished, as that certainly isn't the case. I know exactly why the chosen timing is selected(it's not budgetary either;)). I think they should be targeting all violators vs playing the desperation card is really all I am saying.

agreed. I wonder, does the timing have anything to do with filling tags before writing tickets;):D

I don't think i've posted this before but here's the buck my hunting partner took out of the same field we got mine in. I've also got a pic of the buck he shot last year somewhere. It was a huge 4x4, i'll see if i can't track it down.

Great buck Saska!

as for the decoy tactic; I too think its reasonable. Although they use it less here in BC, they do tend to throw out a 6pt elk in a farmers field the night elk seasn closes.

I think they should use it more often, although i know alot of hunters literally have to road hunt due to physical constraints, but I dont really like road hunting and I think alot of road hunters bend the rules with posted land etc. I duno, just my 2 cents.
