Went out to practice with my bow this evening with my girlfriend. Park the truck at my homemade outdoor bow range, and as I am getting my bow gear ready and am talking to my girlfriend, I hear the tell tale "thud thud" of a deer jump to its feet. The property I am on is a large piece of private property which I have permission to hunt - and there are lots of mule deer around.

So I tell my girlfriend to stick around, I am going after the deer. I take off my boots and nock my hunting arrow - heading after the deer I see it trotting to my left, and yes it has horns!

I move to my right to cut it off, and sure enough I get ahead/caught upto him. It basically came down to a moment - all mule deer are open for one more day (today) but I didnt want to shoot any buck - so this one fleeting moment that I had a clear 35yd broadside shot, I instead spent identifying it as a nice four point buck.

By no means a booner, but probably around 150'' class. I went after him after missing this opportunity but only saw him once more bounding away. He was headed into the mass section of property (900 some odd acres) so I think hell stick around - especially with the amount of does around and the impending rut.

Thinkin I might head out tomorrow to see if I cant get a poke at him. Would be a nice first bow buck!

AG, To answer your mulie doe's question about banding or grouping, yes. I noticed they are really start to break off the family groups of mom and fawns and getting intoherds. Also the bachelor bucks, usually comprimsed of 2 dinks and 1 that needs a year ortwo to become a master are close in toe. The big boys are in shadows for the most part but they are never far to sweep in and take their positionat top of the pecking order. Also the ones that ready to challenge are roaming for territory to establish....this to me is MULIE pre-rut and within a couple weeksDoe's will be squatting/dragging their hocks with bucks in toe...LOVE IT!
Very good best of luck to you today.

I had a great morning friggin' cleaning house but managed to sneak in a game of SORRY with my little ladies. Now we're heading to thepet expo, they are pumped. So am I...ever seenlamas race?...WOW.It sucks no cameras or I'd share FO SHO. I will report back but I sure hope they have a brown phase lama...trophy IMO................................

Probably my most frustrating hunt in years occured this weekend. Started off by catching $hit from some goof on land I HAVE permission on[:@]Called the owner and he said he'd prefer us out there instead of the clown who was way out of line. Saw nothing but a small mulie buck and a hail storm! Sat. was brutal!! Cold and rain[&:]The place we hunt was soaked and saw barely any deer moving. Saw a few pheasants so after getting the chills we decided to get the shotguns. I didn't even point my gun at one!! Either the wrong side of the bush or too far awayI've never been skunked in my life on opening weekend, guess there's a first for everything. Anyhow...work sucks and my hunting was just as bad. Here's to next week!

Early In ---> It is Primetimeb, I switched over user names... Gotta be excited for the bowzone! I just seen a picture come into work the other day of a mule deer that will push 200 inches Typical and probably about 220 Non-Typical. It was sick, taken in the bowzone!
I am sick with myself, havent even been scouting in the zone yet... havent really hunted much at all, lost permission this year and now Im on the search for new grounds...

G'Luck
