RE: Spring Bear
Thanks gang. The kids were pretty pumped. Ben so wanted his friend to get his first bear that he wouldn't take one until we got Gogo one. I'm really glad for Gogo, he's a great kid. The bear he got was about 61/2 feet, not bad for a first bear. Ben's was a bit smaller, but it is quite a challenge with a muzzleloader, still a decent bear though.
I may go out next weekend, but will only take a real lunker with a bow. We are lucky to live in bear mecca, so having taken good ones in the past it will have to be a real special one before I unleash an arrow.
Good luck to all you other bear hunters!!

Tanya I know in BC it is only spot and stalk. when you go for bears do you use old logging roads or are you looking for the bears on the coast line during ebb tides? i would love to hunt the port alice /hardy area.lots of nice country there.
If you live in ducan then i bet we know a few people we have in common

Nicholal; We usually run the logging roads and walk old grown over spurs as well. However, I know that they do hunt them in estuaries in some parts of the Island, depending on what the shores are like in that particular area. The area we mostly hunt is just west of where we live 11/2 hr. out in the logging divisions. The area you speak of has a ton of big bears. They took several 7 foot ones there last year and some over 20" skulls. As a non-res Canadian though you would have to have someone that is a resident guide you, or go through the outfitter for north end of the Island which is Jim Shockey www.jimshockey.com
And, yup we live just outside Duncan - dairy farmers
