Zeiss vs Meopta
Guys, this may be a "best scope for your money 2" thread in a sense.....but I'm narrowing my choices down. The 2 that I'm most interested in is Zeiss and Meopta. I can get a 3-9X40 conquest for $5 BILLS. But for whatever reason I don't really want a 3-9x40..I want a little more. I like the Conquest 3.5-10x44 but if I go to that price range I'm in the Meopta price range and the Meopta is actually $50 bucks cheaper. Plus I've been told that Meopta has BETTER glass from more than one source. I can get a 3.5-10X50 Meopta R1 for about $650. And the Meoptas are 30mm scopes instead of a 1 inch like the conquest----thus letting in more light for better low light hunting---which is what I am CONCERNED with. What's ya'lls take?--DrAsus

Here is my $.02.
Both are very good. I had a Meopta Meostar that was excellent. IMO, the glass was a bit better than the Conquest (but the Conquest is certainly no dog). A 30mm scope does not "gather" any more light than a 1" scope. It will, however, typically have a larger adjustment range and me even be somewhat stronger. If you are highly focused on low light capabilities, get the best glass you can afford, along with a good reticle (I prefer the #4A myself). Also, don't over look the Trijicon Accupoint line. They are the bugs nutz in deep woods or during low light times. Good luck.

My understanding was that Meopta made the glass for the Zeiss Conquest line of scopes. Rifle scopes aren't really my cup of tea but you pick up a thing or two dealing in binoculars and spotting scopes regularly.

Zeiss...hands down. I have one on my muzzleloader 50 cal. and cant tell you how many rounds I have shot thru it...
It is still dead on, bright, and clear. It is a 3x9x50 conquest
I have hunted deer in the heat to snow and toted that thing on my back up and down the hills of new mexico for elk. It is a real gem for the money!
I also own a few swaroski's but love that zeiss scope the best!!!
The swaro's are more money and zeiss also has ones that cost alot more but for what you get in the conquest...I think its the best bang for the buck!

PAJack--which do you like better? The 3-9X50 or your 4.5-14X44??
I want a little more than 3-9. I was thinking of the 3.5-10X44. Only thin is I can get the R1 Meopta 3.5-10x50 for about $200 LESS!!!--DrAsus

I was told that zeiss contracted Meopta to assemble the conquest here in the US with zeiss lenses and componets made in Germany. I am not a optics insider, but I heard the same story from different people in the business. I prefer the Docter Optic line. The best German scope I ever looked through.

Greetings, Just gonna toss in another vote for meopta. I have a Meostar R1 4-16X44 mounted on my 7 Mag and havent looked back ever since. The 30 mm tube does give you more adjustment if needed and the optics are bright and razor sharp. Good luck regardless. You should be happy with either piece...
