Saw a beautiful Browning High Wall 1885 single shot and bought it today. It's in mint condition with Leupold rings, chambered in .45-70. I would eventually be using it for pigs and possibly deer. Wouldn't this be a good candidate for a fixed power scope?

Great find, I love those 1885 High Walls. I would have NO issue putting a fixed 4X scope on that baby. I'd likely get a Conquest 4X32 with a 4A reticle or a Leupy FX2 in 4 power. Another great low-light usage choice would be a Trijicon 1.25-4 X 24 with a green triangle. Based on looks alone, I'd do the gloss Leupy, but for best functionality, the Trijicon is AWESOME. Good luck.

Hey, there you are, I knew you'd be out there somewhere. If ever a gun was crying out for a gloss scope, this is it. The fit and finish on this thing is unreal. This one will give me some real knock down power, good thing to have for the pigs, and will work for close to mid range on deer. I was going into town tomorrow to pick up the 3-9x40 Vortex Viper I had picked out for the 06, but I may put it on this one for awhile until I find the fixed power I want. I'll check and see what he's got in a fixed power, I was looking for the 06 so didn't pay any attention. He is a Vortex distributer so we'll go thru his catalog and see what Vortex has. Thanks for the advice and I'll let you know what I find---

Sounds great. The Vortex Vipers are VERY nice and their CS / warranty is tops. I'm pretty sure they don't have a gloss model...too bad. Anyhow, the Leuppy can stand the abuse if you run hot stuff. Good luck.

I had settled on a nice new Burris in the lower power range for this thing, got it home and found it was too short to span the rings. This worked out real well because I took it back today and upgraded to the Fullfield ll, 3-9x40 in gloss black. It mounted up perfectly and looks like a million bucks. I'll get it bore sighted and then out to the range. My wife has the camera again, but as soon as I can get my hands on it I'll take a couple photos and post them on the forum. This gun is just too pretty not to share with all of you that have been so helpful and patient as I
stumbled around learning about scopes---I also discovered in the Burris catalog, a line they call the Short Mag series, and the top of the line scope can be had in silver. This will match my stainless .300 WSM---it was a good day---thanks guys-----John
