Yes, we all know profit is a dirty word-- all companies should strive to lose money every day.
You said it best-there is a difference between legal and ethical. You are probably legal. You are also, in my opinion, unethical.
Just one more opinion that I am sure does not matter.

Moose, I'm not saying what he did was great ethically, but I'm sure CowBelly's sold the scopes for the same price and got their money back! It's not his fault the guy at the other store was too lazy to do his job!
In my case, it was an advertized price! Had they caught their "mistake," I'd have made them sell it to me for the posted price anyway, because it would be false advertizing otherwise!

The next time someone rips *you* off, don't complain, because you set the precedent yourself.
And by the way, thanks for helping perpetuate the stereotype of irresponsible, dishonestslob hunters. PETA will want to send you an award.

Otherwise, I was only stating the differences between legal and ethical, if you read closer, I just stated the argument, I never stated that these were my beliefs!
Moose, Thank you too Bud! Now, I'm a slob hunter too! Thanks to you and Brother Dave, I've proved my point! It is easy to judge others by a set of one's "personal" beliefs or, "ethics."
You both prejudiced yourselves without fully understanding what I was saying! Do ya'll really read a post before responding? It seems that you have me confused with the "Cabelas" guy!
The two things that I do stand by are:
1. A business that takes returns without a reciept, is asking to get other dealers products!
(Why, I do not know! Perhaps they think that for the "convienience" of a "no questions" returns policy, they will draw in more customers, turning whatever loss they occured into a future profit.)
2. I stand by my buying a 200.00 scope for 150.00! I did not know much about Nikon scopes! I spent 20 minutes or more of MY time, comparing all the scopes in the cabinet, decide the one for 150 is just as good as the one for 200, only to have a clerk scan a bar code andpull out a different scope!
NO WAY!
It is an honest mistake (probably so!) OR, it is "bait and switch!"
You bet your sweet petunias, I'm going to walk out the door with the scopethat was marked 150.00 for 150.00! AND I'll walk out the door with my head held high, and sleep good the same night!

Frankly this is all crazy. If someone shows you a product marked at a certain price, they should sell it to you at that price. They made the choice when they hired people at such a low hourly rate that they got someone so incompetent that they don't know their product line. So, that was a risk which did not reward them that day, but just by getting you in the store, giving you a good deal, etc, they will make a repeat customer. So it's not worth crying for too long. Besides, they have run many great american companies off the continent. . .so I'm holding back my tears.
Second, I do patronize a store more often with easy return policies. If a stores difficult return policies challenge me once, usually I don't return. Ask Target if I'm a repeat customer there.. . .or Old Navy. Yea, my money, my vote. I'll take them elsewhere, thank you. Now, I would add that I will not purposely return items to the wrong store, but I'm sure it has happened with gifts at times. If I know it is the wrong store, I ask. Good stores say sure we'll give you money or store credit back. It can be a win win.
No, not all companies should lose money. Gee, when you hire teeney boppers to sell guns and ammo at the WalMart, what are you doing? Is it my job to make sure that Joe-Minimum-wage and John his manager fool know how to run the business? No, the freakin' company has to teach them that. If they hire the unteachable, then you get what you get and you don't throw a fit. Don't expect your customers to come in and teach your employees how to run the business.
