RE: Zeiss Conquest, 40mm or 50mm?

Coming from a diehard leupold fan for YEARS, I can attest to zeiss optical quality being superior. The resolution factor for these is GREAT-you can define tiny detail right out to the very edge of field of view. In cheaper or inferior optical quality scopes, this is only attainable by cranking the magnfication power up higher than what the zeiss is set on, and then only in the middle 3/4 area of the lens. In other words, what you can see with other cheaper scope at 12x,you'll actually be able to see with zeiss at 9x for example.

You seem to forget that in most places,it's HIGHLY illegal to hunt in the dark-especially for deer and other game animals.
In most places? I'm not telling anyone to hunt illegal. Even if you only hunt from dawn to dusk there will be a big difference between a 40mm and a 56mm scope. I use my 56's at night during full moon on those shy big old boars.

You've got to remember the vast majority of members are in usa and except for places like texas predator hunting,it's almost universally illegal to hunt at night in the us.

OK, so it is illegal in most states to hunt for hogs at night? I did get the impression that it was legal.

That's correct, in most states, texas being 1 of the exceptions, it's illegal to hunt at night for anything, unless they've drastically changed their laws. Now in some places, you're allowed to shoot critters out of your crops to prevent further crop damage, but I wouldn't know which states that would be.

True, but there are cloudy days, dark woods, creek bottoms, west side of fields with tall trees, etc....where light beats you before the clock does.
I have never hunted where a 40mm conquest was not adequate during legal hours.
Clock beat me by 10min lastnight....damp, cloudy afternoon, foggy too.........dont think it would have mattered though.....with the fog.

Do you own a Zeiss Conquest? I am wondering if you have personal experience regarding the difference between an American Swaro and Zeiss Conquest. I am thinking about making the American Swaro the next scopeI purchase. Right now Iown a few Conquests and they are great but Ihave always heard great things about Swaro.

I have owned both the 3x9x40 conquest, and the 3x10x42 swarovski AV.I prefer the Swarovski.
