little advice on modding an sks scope mount
I have an sks scope mount
just like this on. if I remove the rings and have the top of the cover drilled and tapped, that should make it more stable scope plateform. I am on the right track on this?
I figure about $40 maybe $50 tops to have it drilled, tapped, a base and rings.
waste of time and money or somewhat down the right track?
Your thoughts, ideas, any thing.

O.k lets see, what you got is a mount that is designed to replace the rear reciever cover of anChina SKS or Yugo SKS etc....
The high rise rings, allow you to still use the open sights on this weapon.
Is this thefirearm your intending to use it on or are you using it on something else..
If this is all your doing, take the rear reciver off the SKS and install this one.
Youwill have to file(so file a little at a time at check for fit often)but its desigined to do the job well and hold zero with out a problem..
The lock studs alone will prevent the mount from rocking if used on this make of firearm.
Save your money first, go to the range and firea bunch of rounds, if your unhappy with the groups than make the decision.
Reason being, at least you didn't modify your gun if it happens to be a bad mount design to begin with, and the second
you didn't spend more than necceaary on your project if it does work.

I have looked, that reciever cover is too thin to do any drill and tap. only other way to do anything with is take small metal plate, work it into an useable shape, drill and tap for both mounting to the reciever and for scope mounts. which makes another problem in it self, stablelizing the plate. which will bring the locking studs into play. I have been looking for replacement screws for due to I do not like the ones that are on it, I can not find any that will fit yet.
needless to say, I have gave up the project. I got time on my hands but I don't feel like going insane doing it.
btw, thanks for reminding me, I need to get more ammo for the gun

Use what you've got and throw a tactical scope or red dot on it.
I'm getting ready tofit my Ak-47 with a scope. Will be using the russian type original side mount, or after market, like a UTGgeneration 3. I may even throw my cheap 3x9 on it. still what to be able to use my open sights so I gotta check on clearance etc.
