RE: Simmons Scopes???
ORIGINAL: mouthcaller Tmbercruiser, My father, in a misguided effort to go cheap, bought one of those Whitetail Classics and put it on a nice Remington model 7 in 7mm-08. Wegot this gun forour boys to hunt whitetails, butthe scopehad such poor eye relief that they wereeither getting hit by it or were unable toget their eyeclose enough to thescope tosee the entire sightpicture. I replaced it with a Burris Fullfield II 3X9 and gave that piece of junk away. Mouthcaller With any scope - you could have one where if you didn't have the right scope mounts - that it would be too close to your eye. Most of the newer scopes has more eye relief. But that doesn't mean that a Simmons scope was bad - just because it didn't have enough eye relief for you. I wouldf be willing to bet that the rifle didn't fit "the boys'" and that they were not cheeking the stock the right way. A scope with more eye relief is easier to look through when things are not proper - but will not lead to accuracy - when the gun is not positioned properly on the shooter. A 7mm08 doesn't have that much kick. |
