RE: Swarovski AV series scopes..

so at twilight i wouldnt see any diffrence in a 3x10x42 than a 4x10x50?
A hunting partner of mine owns a 4x12x50,and comparing it to my own 3x10x42s at dusk and dawn, I certainly don't see a significant difference. The 3x10x42 is plenty bright for use during the legal hours where I hunt, that being 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.

thanks. well the 3x10x432 is about $949 and the 4x12x50 is about $999 so im just trying to figure out whats the best way to go. from what most are saying they are about the same.

To me the biggest differences are the slightly lower magnification that is handy at close range when hunting in heavy cover, and the fact that the 3x10x42 can be mounted lower, allowing a better cheeck position on the stock.

I have my 4-12 x 50 mm mounted on my 270 WSM for open fields and use my 3-10 x 42 mm for heavy cover. I have to agree with the 42 mm being more practical for heavy cover. I used a 50 mm scope one time deer hunting doing a push on a drive and it was no treat...

The 3x10x42 is very versatile, and is an excellent choice for big game hunting at all distances.I have mine mounted on 7mmstw and 300 ultramag rifles, and have taken big game at distances from 20 yards to 480 yards.

so are yall saying that the 4x12x50 might actually be a negative or that the 3x10x43 would be just as good for hunting in deep covered woods??????????????????

In my opinion the 3x10x42 would be a better choice for close ranges or for heavy cover, and it is still a great choice for open country or longer range big game hunting.I consider having to mount the 4x12x50 higher to be a negative.
