Does anyone know the difference between Nikon 40 and 44 objective outside edge size is? I gave my son a Tikka rifle which has a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 and he wants to upgrade the scope to a Nikon Monarch 3-9x44. The rifle right now has the stock rings it came with and has 3/16" clearance between the barrel and the scope objective tube. Thanks, Tim

You should still lots of room for that 44 mm obj. lens. The difference between 40 & 44 mm is approx. 5/32”. A quick conversion method for calculating from mm to inches is ( 0.03937 x mm = inches )...

Thanks guys for the info. After looking closer at the gun if its going to be too tight I can move the current bases ahead about 1/4" and the scope forwardsome and that will get me in there.

The Tikka base and rings should be the Optilock system being a stock set and if so, I don’t think you can move the base forward at all. I have a set on my Sako with the same system. Both rifles have the integral dovetail rails and the bases have to be tapped into place to be nice and tight to fit the tapered rail. On a side note, the lowest set of Optilock rings can accommodate up to a 56 mm obj. lens so I really don’t see you having a problem. Good luck...

Trailer, not quite right man. The Tikka's integral mount rail is not tapered like the Sako. The bases can move back and forth. The Tikka Optilock is a little different than the Sako.
