My buddy has at least one of each of the best(Swarovski, Ziess, Smidt and Bender, etc)

He says the Ziess Diavari 3x12x56-30mm is the best !!

I have a Diavari 3x9x42-1" and my Swarovski 3x12x50-30mm isbetter but it is bigger !! I still would not say it's a lot better....those Diavari's are real good !!
I have a Zeiss Diavari 3-12x56 with a 30mm tube. It is definitely the most expensive scope that I have, but I prefer my Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 to it.
Why?Because I just bought one and I am waiting for the new Sako finnlight to put it on! I really like the conquest but have never looked through the Diavari, Is the conquest better?
Elmer
It may be just me, but to my eye the edges of my Diavari 3-12x56 are blurry. Not bad but a little distorted especially on 12x. I don't get this in my Conquest 4.5-14x44 or 6.5-20x50. I would not say that the Conquests are "better", but I do like mine.

If you could choose any scope, what kind would it be? If you didn't base your decision on price?
Leupold. I dont care how much money I have, I will always buy Leupold.

I am going to have to disagree about the Leupold. It is not even in the same ballpark with the Schmidt Bender. I have a Leupold VXIII- 4.5-14 x50 on my Winchester Model 70 .270 and a Schmidt Bender 3.5-12x50 on my Savage Model 110 .25-06.I was at the range sighting the rifles in right before dusk. Shooting at a target at 100 yards with a red dot about 2 inches in diameter, I was having trouble seeing the red dot with the Leupold. I picked up the Schmidt Bender and I could see my bullet holes in the target. I have hunted all season with both rifles and the difference is more than noticeable.

I tested my Swarovski against my Diavari the other evening and the Diavari is slightly clearer (despite being smaller).........but they are very very close !!

Checked out my buddy's S&B the other day and it was not nearly as clear up on 10 power as either of my scopes .......but it seemed to be fine on lower powers !! Did not get to test it at dark !!

My vote would be for a big Diavari 3x12x56-30mm or 3x12x50-30mm !!

No, the Conquest is the budget line of Zeiss scopes. If you are going to buy a Zeiss and can afford the Diavari, it is definitely the way to go.
