I purchased a .270 and need a scope for it. I am looking for a scope that is up to $130. Any suggestions? Thanks.

dway87,for your price range I would suggest a fixed 4x scope on your 270.If I was going new I would look at the Nikon Prostaff fixed 4x or the Weaver fixed 4x.Dont forget to look at used fixed power scopes.In used I would look for a Leupold M8 4x,you can pick these up in your price range and they are a top of the line fied power scope for the money with a great warrenty.I just bought a Leupold for my 270 to replace a free bee tasco golden antler 4x that was on it.A fixed 4x scope is good enough for the avrage shoot at ranges that they should be shooting at,and good shooter wouldnt feel handicaped by it nethier.Fixed power scopes a reliable,simple,easy to use

I agree. In that price range I would vote fixed 4x. Although the Weaver fixed 6x can be had for about that too. One note on the 4x prostaff is that it is parralax adjusted at 50 yds. not 100 yds like normal riflescopes. I have one on a 10/22 and think its fine for the money. You probably wouldn't have any trouble using it on a .270. The Weavers are fully multicoated where the Nikon Prostaff is not. I would probably go for the Weaver because of that.

The new Weaver I looked at was a very nice scope for the money for a fixed powerd scope,If you shop around the net you should be able to pick one up in your price range

Another great 4x scope in your price range I have seen on sale latley is the 4x Nikon buckmaster,I beleave that Midway had them for 129.00 this month

The new Weavers probably won't be the same since Meade bought them, Simmons and Redfieldout. I think they are made in the Phillipines now. I would go for the 4X Nikon if you can find one.

I believe the New Meade owned weavers are still Made in Japan. The V series and the Fixed powers represent an excellent value in a fully multi coated scope.
Most of the Phillipnes scopes I have seen were Simmons, but that company is owned by Meade too. In My opinion the quality of Simmons, Weaver (and supposedly Redfield) have all gone up a notch since being bought by meade.
You can get a used Weaver v9 on ebay for the kind of money you are talking about. Also looked for a close out redfield or Smith and Wesson scope. I bought a new in box Smith and Wesson 3-9x40 made in japan with FULLY MULTI coated optics for 100 bucks from a company called CDNN. It is a good scope. They also have a redfield scope that is so similar, I think they are made in the same factory. It is also 100 bucks. In most case, warranty repair is available for these scopes even though S&W is no longer having them made.
I see brand new Burris FullfieldII 3-9 scopes on ebay and mail order (Natchez and such) that run around 150, or 200 bucks for hte scope and a pair of Burris 8x32 binoculars. This is a great deal! The Fullfield scopes is probably the best deal out there right now and it is a great mid priced scope at a low price point.

How about bushnell scopes?

dway,IMOA,Bushnell scopes are ok,some are good some arnt.With some looking around you can find a much better scope in your price range.130.00 dollar price range,these scope are mostly lower end,unless you find them on closeout.In lower end scopes I like fixed powers because they are a very simple scope that has very few moveing parts to go wrong.My thought behind scopes are I would reather own a savage rifle with a good scope,then a Kimber or a Sakowith a 100.00 bushnell.If your set on a veriable powerd scope you cant go wrong with one in the 2x7 or 3x9 range.Cheap scopes are great till the fail,and it is never when your gun is at home,seems to be always while your hunting,go figure.Fixed power scopes in the 4x range,and in your price range will last a life time.Look on E bay there seems to always be Leupolds M8 4x on there going in your price range,and with leipold they are warrantyed for ever,you dont have to be the person who baought it new
