I have owned a Docter scope for 3 years. It is a 3-9x40. Made in Germany. In Germany during WWII there were several Zeiss Factories. One was left on the wrong side of the wall after the war (or right side of the wall if you are a socialist). So they were CarlZeiss Jena during the cold war. CArl Zeiss for the name of the company and Jena because that particular factory is in Jena.
Anyway the scope is world class in it's build and optical quality. Very clear and bright fr the entire field of view.
But I just took it off of my .308 and mounted it on my 300 win m ag. Now I realize for bigger recoil, I need more eye relief. It only has 3" of relief whcih was the industry standard when it was made. But I have to get real close and I just bumped my glasses today witht the scope!
I will probably get a Zeiss Conquest, Burris Signature Select or Leupold VXIII.

PS, My Docter Nobilem 16x60 porro binos have a view that is to die for and they just feel world class in your hands. But they also have short eye relief. About 15mm which means I have to take off my glasses.

okcmco,
I beleive that you were the one that posted in reply to me buying doctors binos about 6 months ago. I agree that they are very nice and like them much better than my brothers zeiss conquest. Ihave a VX-III for my rifle and really like it. When I was shopping around I did look at the conquest and really liked it and thought that it was a little crisper viewthan the VX-III but it came down to the VX-III having the B&C bulletdrop recticle for me. I don't think that you can go wrong with either the VX-III or the conquest.

Huskergoose hunter!. Yeah I was and am really high on Docter! The quality of the glass is excellent. ANd they are about 25% cheaper thsan the Conquest and 30% cheaper than the VX3. But you know, they are an older design. The 3" eye relief has been the industry standard for years. But I am shooting more asnd more powerful cartridges and will be buying a .325 wsm soon. But Zeiss and leupold have considered other things beside optical resolution lately. Like styling, eye relief, weight, more reticle options etc.
I think the Zeiss has 4" of eye relief, and Sightron S2 is 4.2-3.5".
So the Docter will be moved back to my .308 or mabye to one of my premium rimfires.I will buy a vx3 or Conquest for the win mag.
I just put a Sightron S2 on my '06. Nice scope and I got it for about 175 delivered.
Thanks for the info

I have 10x40. I bought them on cabelas website regular price $800they were on sale for $540, I am not even sure of the model. I do wear glasses and I still have a good field of view. This year elk hunting in colorado I got to real high elevations and glassed for several hours the 3 days leading up to season and did not have any problems.
