Ken,
Are we allowed to carry a small 2x4 with us on any range to help with footing. I read the rules up and down and can't see anything opposing it. Let me know...

Necer had that one come up before. I would not venture a guess. It sounds like some sort of assistance thing.
On a smooth nice day it might fly. On a not so smooth day I don't know. In this case a ten percent chance of a bad answer is not good enough to do it.

Ken,
Not sure I understand that answer. I was under the assumption if there is a rule that opposes something then it can't be done. I did not read any rules opposing using something like that to get a better foot hold on bad peg placements in a muddy hole or something else similar
. Are there fly by the moment rules floating out there that can be enfoced at any given time (or on a not so smooth day as you state in your reply) that are not posted in the rule book? Like I said I did not understand your answer. Can you please clarify? According to the rule book, Can it be used or not?
Thanks Again.

there are times when a stake is set on uneven ground sometimes with no choice other times to add to the difficulty but in either case carrying and object with you to change a shot is altering a course. this can only be done by an official it would be illegal. to me this is no differen't then moving the stake so you have a better shot then putting it back.

I don't see where this would be any different than " digging in " to get a more level stance ? Everyone does this ! Not at the worlds but I have seen people carry a flat rock with them for an entire course and use it when necessary.

Ken/ej:
Thank You Very Much for the answer. The only reason I asked is because I had overheard some other shooters talking about it and I was wondering if it was legal or not. Now that I know the answer I can follow accordingly and let the others know. Again, it is awesome to have this forum so that we can be informed.

I would suggest by ej's ruling "digging in" is also not legal.
We spend a lot of time finding that spot, right there for you to shoot from. MANY times the footing is an issue for the shot.
I will make a deal with you guys, I will stop trying to add a bit of humor to the answers. I'm not very adept and it just muddies the water.
Then ej has to come along behind me and clean up my mess.

ken, its your humor and mastery of weather that keeps us coming back, you dont think its the targets do you?
so by what you are saying, if you alter the course you get a zero, so if i miss, and have to break a limb or two to get my arrow, its a double zero........
