RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

Treat hunter class just like all the other classes.

Raise the fees to the same level as other classes.

Pay out money.

Create a class that is for archers that do not want to compete in regular competition. Entry fee would be the same as it is now in hunter class.
Draw names from a hat for the winners and the rest of the entry fees would go to the BOWHUNTER DEFENSE FUND. This will help the bowhunter defense fund and is as fair as you can be to people that don't want to compete with the hunter class top shooters.
Shooting a good score should never bring a penalty but should give everyone a target to shoot for. No way should the IBO dictate to a person where or how he should compete. The IBO does not tell people that they are shooting to low a score and they will have to drop back. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

Chances are there will be no changes at all after the fall meeting but that would be the best thing for all archers concerned.

ENJOY THE GAME ITS LATER THAN YOU THINK

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

GENTLEMEN,

I POSTED ON ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT THIS SAME SUBJECT, AND STILL BELIEVE THAT A CLASS DESIGNATED AS NONCOMPETATIVE SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED. THIS COULD BE A "WE ARE THE IBO, THIS IS WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT" CLASS.

MEANING, THIS CLASS SHOULD NOT REQUIRE A MEMBERSHIP, AND HAVE A LITTLE LOWER ENTRY FEE. I BELIEVE THIS WILL GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING FRIENDS WHO DO SHOOT THE LOCAL RANGES ON OCCASSION TO COME TO A NATIONAL LEVEL SHOOT AND SEE WHAT THIS TYPE OF COMPETITION IS ALL ABOUT AND HOW MUCH FUN IT CAN BE. BUT, I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS SAME CLASS SHOULD NOT BE OFFERED AT THE WORLDS. THE IBO GOES TO MANY DIFFERENT STATES AND REGIONS, BUT YOU REALLY DO NOT SEE A WHOLE LOT OF "LOCALS" AT THESE SHOOTS.

I LIVE VERY CLOSE TO NELSONVILLE, AND HAVE TRIED TO GET SOME FRIENDS TO SHOOT THERE WITH ME, ONE GUY ASKED HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST AND I TOLD HIM. HE DECIDED NOT TO GO (AND SHOOT) THIS YEAR BECAUSE IN THE HC HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT $60 WHEN HE KNOWS HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMPETE SCORE-WISE AND PROBABLY WILL NOT SHOOT ANOTHER "BIG SHOOT" AGAIN THIS YEAR. I ALSO EXPLAINED TO HIM SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP, BUT HE WAS NOT INTERESTED. I THINK THAT IF HE WERE TO SHOOT THERE, HIS INTEREST WOULD BE SPARKED AND WE WOULD HAVE ANOTHER MEMBER. REMEMBER, THERES STRENGTH IN NUMBERS.

ALSO, IF WE OPEN OUR DOORS TO THE PUBLIC (WITH ONE LITTLE RESTRICTION--NO AWARDS), IT COULD MAKE OUR ORGANIZATION APPEAR TO BE MORE OPEN TO NEW MEMBERS. I KNOW WE ARE VERY OPEN NOW, BUT MOST PEOPLE DO NOT REALIZE THAT. IT WOULD JUST SEEM LIKE WE ARE WELCOMING NEW BLOOD AND APPRECIATE NEW MEMBERS. THIS WAY SOMEONE COULD GET A FEEL FOR IT AND SEE IF THEY LIKE IT. AND I BET THEY WILL. DOES EVERYONE REMEMBER THE FIRST NATIONAL/WORLD LEVEL SHOOT YOU WENT TO, WERE YOU HOOKED RIGHT THEN AND THERE, I KNOW I WAS.

AS FAR AS MOVING ALONG BY POINTS, I THINK SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE, BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT. THE POINTS THING SOUNDS GOOD, BUT WHAT IF IT IS IMPLEMENTED ACROSS THE FIELDS. I DO NOT THINK THAT SOMEONE SHOULD BE FORCED INTO SEMI-PRO OR PRO. ACTUALLY, I DONT EVEN THINK PEOPLE SHOULD BE PUSHED OUT OF MBR AND MBO EITHER. BUT, I AM SURE THAT WOULD NOT BE FAR BEHIND. I KNOW THE OTHER GROUP (ASA) HAS SOMETHING OF THIS SORT SETUP, BUT I DONT KOW HOW IT WORKS FOR THEM AS FAR AS EFFECTIVLY. MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING, I REALLY DONT KNOW. THEN AS YOUR SKILLS IMPROVE, YOU WILL HAVE TO KEEP WORKING ON THEM TO COMPETE AT A HIGHER LEVEL. I AM SURE THIS SUBJECT WILL BE UP FOR SOMETIME, AND I THOUGHT I WOULD PUT IN MY OPINION. AS WE ARE ALL SEEING HERE, THERE ARE A LOT OF OPTIONS AND THINGS THAT CAN BE DONE TO RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM (WHETHER IT BE PERCIEVED OR ACTUAL). BUT, AT LEAST WE HAVE OPTIONS TO LOOK AT. MAYBE BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR WE WILL BE LOOKING TO TWEAK THINGS A LITTLE WITH WHAT IS DECIDED ON TO MAKE THEM EVEN BETTER. THANKS, BUTCHB.

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

I feel that most competive MHC shooters range from the mid-20's to mid 40's. I feel that for the most part the younger & older shooters are NOT as driven by money or the glory of winning but rather to have fun and are happy just to be involved.

First posible change should be to divide the MHC into three age groups, <21, <50, >50. Second change, make the >21 : <50 group the only money division. However, if a younger or old shooter feels compelled to shoot for the bucks, they can paid the entrance fee and shoot for the bucks.

At the very least, I would like to see a senior HC class.

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

O.k. now there are some interesting ideas.
But there is no focus. If we ask a question we must be sure there will be some direction for it. Asking with no focus would do us no good.
We do not want to run shooters off.
The class was for the bowhunter. It has morphed into something else. I am not trying to take anything away from the shooters in these classes.
But, how do we get the beginner to enjoy his participation on the local level. Say just 100 shooters shooting up. Send them around to 50 local clubs and the maturation of skills in this class has created a gap that the local guy feels can never be bridged.
I shot 330 and he shot 430. I THOUGHT I was doing pretty good.
Read the above comments and you will see how independant we are as a group. That independance and the ego that goes with it, is a problem for me and my 330. Now it ain't fun.
As a purpose for all of us it is inherant in our duties to encourage the bowhunter to get out and shoot their bow and arrow set more than two weeks before season starts.
Back up a step from the national level events and look at this from a local club level. There is where we need to look at the fix.
I do not have the answers.
That is what we have you for.:D
Try and bring some focus and direction to this. Help us out.

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

KEN,
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, THERE WAS A MEETING HELD AT SNOWSHOE WITH THE TRADITIONAL GUYS TO DISCUSS SOME OF THE ISSUES THAT THEY FACED. DO YOU THINK THAT THIS MIGHT POSSIBLY BE IN ORDER FOR THE HC AS WELL? ALTHOUGH I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO SHOOT, I DO INTEND TO SHOW UP FOR ONE DAY OR TWO ANYHOW JUST TO LOOK AROUND AND CAN PROBABLY SCHEDULE AROUND THAT IF SO. I DO REALIZE THAT WITH OUR NUMBERS IT MIGHT BE SOMEWHAT CUMBERSOME TO FIND A FACILITY THERE THAT THIS COULD BE HELD AND NELSONVILLE IS PROBABLY TOO CLOSE TO SCHEDULE FOR THERE. I WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK TO YOU AT NELSONVILLE ABOUT THIS FURTHER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, EVEN A DAY OR TWO BEFORE THE EVENT IF YOU WOULD BE AVAILABLE.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, BUTCHB.

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

I have read all of the ideas on this issue, and have given a few of my own. After thinking about it and talking with friends in the HC, I dont think it is right to force a guy out of a class because he shoots a 415 or 429. These guys are shooting these scores and Iam not, because they work harder and practice more than I do. If they work harder than I do they deserve to win more than I do. But on the other hand its not quite right for a bowhunter that comes to his first 3d shoot, to get the crap kicked out of him when he may have shoot in the 70s or 90s thats not good for business. I think the best idea is to have an advanced hunter class maybe even make it 40yd max raise the entry fee equal to the MBR fee and pay money to win. Dont change the rules for equipment and dont force anyone to move out of the other hunter class. I think you would see the hunters shoot one class and the 3d hunters shoot another. I would shoot a hunter money class and I think my 3d friends would to. But best of all if one of my friends that is a bowhunter and wants to try 3d he can shoot in a hunter class and not feel like he shot bad when he shot a 385 or 395. The guys that are shooting the 420s and 429s, (( man I still cant get over a 429 31xs that is the higest score I have ever seen. That is great shooting and my hat is off to you Adam. But it has made me work harder or on my game so that I can shoot a 430 30xs.)) are going to go where they can get the most for their scores they would be foolish not to.

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

I REALLY LIKE THAT IDEA, THAT WAY IT WOULD ALSO BE LIKE ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS MBR. WOULD THIS CLASS HAVE THE SAME EQUIPMENT RESTRICTIONS AS HC? IT MAKES SENSE, THAT WAY, IF YOU DECIDE TO SHOOT THE ADVANCED CLASS FOR MORE MONEY (LIKE I WOULD EVER GET IN ON IT), IT WOULD ONLY BE ANOTHER STEP IN HONING SKILLS TO STEP UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL. THEN, WOULD WE BE ABLE TO DROP THE MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT FOR HC? SORRY ABOUT ASKING AGAIN, BUT IF WE WANT TO HAVE A CLASS THAT WOULD BE DESIGNATED AS "BEGINNER, OR NOVICE", IT MIGHT DRAW A FEW MORE SHOOTERS TO GET THEIR FEET WET, AND AS WE ALL KNOW, THEY WILL PROBABLY JUMP IN HEAD FIRST AFTER THAT. GOOD IDEA BENTSHAFT. BUTCHB

RE: HUNTER CLASS IDEAS

First I'm going home for the weekend in a little while. Peggy does not let me check things on her computer very often.
Second, those meetings don't work very well. We are still trying to sort out what we heard from all different directions and what a couple guys wanted us to hear from all of the shooters.
I don't want any fist fights. It's enough when everyone is p***** at me.
Gets to hot to quick.
Mybe a questionaire in the mail from the suggestions everyone can agree on,from here. HC's only.

Someone tell me the difference for 40 and 45 yards for a master or money HC and MBR.
Maybe a short stabilizer rule in MBR. With the 4" fletching. A class just to win is not going to be an answer.
