RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Rinehart is offering IBO as well as ASA replacment kills. As the pres. of a club and seeing the transition from Mckenzies to Rineharts I can say from experience that Rineharts hold up much better. We purchased a 10 target range that had been shot over 400 times in a pro am by open b shooters . We shot hem another 200 shots (approx.)and then again the entire season before we had to change kills. The scoring rings are smaller and have a different placement than Mc's so this is usually where the controversy arises . They also had alot of smaller targets but have added larger ones this year .They do also come with a free replacment kill ( which I'm sure is included when structuring price guidlines).Don't get me wrong I don't sell for Rinehart but do like the targets. Mckenzie's are fun to shoot and Ive always enjoyed them but I feel they need to upgrade thier foam .These are my opinions and don't represent those expressed or not of any others who have anything to do with any of this . :)

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Fastfletch,
you asked, so I shall tell you my club's experience. Our club has 15 Rinehardts and about40 McKenzies. Our Rinehardts are already wearing out compared to our McKenzies bought at the same time which still have plenty of life left. The Rinehardts still look to be in great shape, but the arrows will pass through, whereas the McKenzie are starting to look shot a bit, but are still stopping arrows great. Rinehardts do give easier arrow pull though. Also, our Rinehardt wolf weighs as much as our McKenzie Lion, and when setting up a course this matters. It may not matter to the shooters, but the club members hate setting the Rinehardts because of their weight. McKenzie is definately a better target, and are lasting longer for our club. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Well i hope IBO stay with McKensies and forgets about rhineharts.
The club i shoot at has both we hold ibo and asa qualifiers and the rhineharts are easier to pull the arrows then mckensies but the dont last as long. the mckensies last twice as long and they are more realistice. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
ken i cant help but think if you changed over the the rhinehart target the ibo will have to become the ivo. international varmithunters association. man those things are small, and not durable at all. some of our local clubs tried them, and the only lasted a few shoots. sure they come with an extra mid section, but if you can shoot a mckenzie for a year, why shoot the "r" targets? stay with durablility, and shooter preference.

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I am with the majority here.I just do not like the Rineharts. As others have stated: pink panthers, red frogs, tiny bears, cobras, etc, etc just don't cut it IMHO.
Although the arrows are much easier to pull from the Rineharts they do shoot up fairly fast, they will take quite a few shoots and still look to be in great shape,BUT the arrows bury to the fletching or shoot clean through after a while. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
McKensie has just also introduced a new "Easy Pull" foam for 2002 that reduces arrow pull by 40-50%. This may eliminate any of the problems of tougher pull, provided the targets still have their great stopping power and durability. We'll see what the season brings and how they hold up, but if they do well, there will be no other choice for IBO targets, IMO. Pinwheel 12

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Pin12, how often have you shot Rineharts? And if Rineharts never came along, then McK would still have the same old "here, help me pull this arrow out" target as always.... RH is making bigger targets. Folks just hate to have to judge yardage again.

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I shoot ASA but I focus on IBO. I've been buying a McKenzie target each year to practice judging yardage mostly.I've spent several hundred hours judging yardage to Mckenzies and that will all be wasted time if the target company changes. I think alot of guys do this and will be very upset if the IBO switches and they have spent hundreds of dollars on building up their supply of McKenzies. As for duribility, I really don't think the Rineharts hold up any better. We were blowing through them on sunday morning in the Florida Pro/AM. And the cost seems a good bit more for a Rinehart. Ken, I vote for leaving things just the way they are! Also think of all the small clubs that couldn't afford the switch.
