IBO & Rhineharts?
A friend of mine just came back from Gainesville and said the buzz was that IBO was in negotiations with Rhineharts? Truth or rumour?
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
God, I hope not! otherwise they'll have to be called the ASBO! LOL. McKensie, the one, the only. Like a Ferrari, there really is no substitute.
Next thing will be going to low 12's! (Stop it, you're killing me! ) Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Im not sure but I think you can order Rhineharts with center 12/X's
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Yes you can buy rinehart's with center x's. They were advertising it last year at all the ibo shoots.
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
If I'm not mistaken, the IBO is under contract with McKenzie for 2002 and 2003. After that, who knows...
Personally, I would like to see the McKenzie's stay around. Just my opinion. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Have you ever picked up a Rinheart target and had the ears break off, the head and body do not match, or shot out afer very few tournaments.
I'll cast my vote for Rineharts. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I have picked up several Rinehardts, and they are extremely heavy. Our clubs' experience with them is that they shoot up a lot faster than the McKenzies. I sure hope IBO sticks with McKenzie. That's one of the reasons I've started shooting some of the IBO shoots.

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
The IBO is in the second year of a three year contract to have McKenzie Targets as the official target at the major events.
Next summer all target companies will be sent an invitation to bid the target use for a period after that. ken12 |

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I have seen the controversy that the Rineharts created in the ASA orginization when they changed over to them. Both targets have their pro and cons. Since IBO started the Southern Triple Crown several clubs in our area now shoot some McKenzies along with the Rineharts. All in all, it will become a wide open discussion as to which is better but in the end I feel that I prefer the McKenzies and hope that IBO doesn't consider changing a good thing. Just my thoughts.
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I don't believe any clubs would have to change over, there is nothing in the rules about what target to shoot, in fact I think they can even be 2D targets. All the rules mention is there needs to be scoring rings on em for x,10,8,5 scoring. The McKenzie, I believe, are a contract for the national triple crown and worlds, nothing more. --Bob |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
The contract with McKenzie extends to all national or world level events.
The requirement for targets to be utilized for an IBO event is to have anatomically correct scoring zones. Having said that I believe that all target makers try to accomplish that end. The difficulty from their perspective toward that end, would be placement of the target by those of us that set the ranges(angles, down hill, etc). McKenzie has come out with a Whitetail target this year to simulate a down hill or tree stand target and a quartering away target for this purpose. ken12 |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Having shot at the Triple Crown and the World as well as attending various sport shows I think that some place McKenzie is missing the boat. Rineharts have been claiming that their targets will outlast more than 0ne of their competitors targets and have been offering time and places where targets on exhibit have been shot and showing shot out McKensie targets as proof. If this is not the case the people that can offer proof to the contrary should be stepping forward with such proof. Our club is switching to Rineharts to save money and to present a better looking target week after week. MeKensie and Rineharts both have a product that when it is presented for the first time has acceptable cosmetic appearance. Over the long haul of setting out and removing targets damage to MeKensie targets at our club have not held up.
If other clubs have bad expierences with Rinehart targets, lets hear about them, not the usual "I heard and Someone Said" chatter that the internet produces. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Fastfletch-
How do you feel that McKensie is "missing the boat"? The fact that McKENSIE has been the #1 target manufacturer for many years, and that they still have the most natural-looking targets available on the market even today should tell you something. NO target lasts forever on the range, especially after thousands of shots have been put into them. Rineharts are no different in this respect. In the past some of the clubs I shoot have tried Clouds, Longhorn, Delta, and YES, Rineharts, and YES, they all do the job of catching arrows, however when looking for the most natural looking target when shooting, IMO there is only one that rises to the top, and it's the one that has been #1 for many years. There is a reason they have been #1, and it's not because they are UGLY! Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12 Edited by - Pinwheel 12 on 03/01/2002 14:19:30 |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
McKensie's are "bar none" the best target that exists. I have no interest in shooting at midget polar bears, "swelled" king cobras(with 7 kill rings), pink panthers, or any other goofy contraption that Rinehardt Targets produce. I guess the IBO is like every other "professional organization" they need to take bids to make the manufacturers happy. Why not be more concerned about the shooters and device a way to find out what we want. ---venting--- Go with the McKensie's. Remeber the old saying. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stu...)

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Shot at a club here in West Virginia today, that had 1 Rinehart on the range and has a few more to put out. I sure hope that IBO stays with McKenzie. I know that Ken says that they will send invitations to other target companies to bid on target use....I sure hope that Rineharts invitation gets lost in the mail and is NEVER found. Nothing personal with anyone that found the Rinehart company or anything like that but the target just plain out suck[;(][red]

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Sorry for the double post!!!!

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Can anyone briefly explain target economics to me? I shoot one place were a member's round of 20 targets is like 5 bucks, Canadian, so 3 bucks roughly. On that basis the range is getting 15 cents a shot, and that works out to $150/1000. Will the targets actually take that many shots? Few of them cost less than $150.

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Pinwheel,
The fact that they are missing the boat is proven by the fact that Rinehart targets is growing every year. The McKensie company has sat back and let their targets slip as far as quality and appearance goes. The cosmetic appearance has gone down hill and the targets that do stop arrows for any length of time they charge you more money for and in reality the extra money does not match the durability. Lets ask all the companys to furnish a target at each of the IBO MAJOR SHOOTS and nonitor the nunber of shots to see which has the best durability. To me the only thing that McKensie has done is reap the harvest and as far as the Natural Look goes they prove that it pays to advertise (Natural Look). |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Rinehart is offering IBO as well as ASA replacment kills. As the pres. of a club and seeing the transition from Mckenzies to Rineharts I can say from experience that Rineharts hold up much better. We purchased a 10 target range that had been shot over 400 times in a pro am by open b shooters . We shot hem another 200 shots (approx.)and then again the entire season before we had to change kills. The scoring rings are smaller and have a different placement than Mc's so this is usually where the controversy arises . They also had alot of smaller targets but have added larger ones this year .They do also come with a free replacment kill ( which I'm sure is included when structuring price guidlines).Don't get me wrong I don't sell for Rinehart but do like the targets. Mckenzie's are fun to shoot and Ive always enjoyed them but I feel they need to upgrade thier foam .These are my opinions and don't represent those expressed or not of any others who have anything to do with any of this . :)

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Fastfletch,
you asked, so I shall tell you my club's experience. Our club has 15 Rinehardts and about40 McKenzies. Our Rinehardts are already wearing out compared to our McKenzies bought at the same time which still have plenty of life left. The Rinehardts still look to be in great shape, but the arrows will pass through, whereas the McKenzie are starting to look shot a bit, but are still stopping arrows great. Rinehardts do give easier arrow pull though. Also, our Rinehardt wolf weighs as much as our McKenzie Lion, and when setting up a course this matters. It may not matter to the shooters, but the club members hate setting the Rinehardts because of their weight. McKenzie is definately a better target, and are lasting longer for our club. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Well i hope IBO stay with McKensies and forgets about rhineharts.
The club i shoot at has both we hold ibo and asa qualifiers and the rhineharts are easier to pull the arrows then mckensies but the dont last as long. the mckensies last twice as long and they are more realistice. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
ken i cant help but think if you changed over the the rhinehart target the ibo will have to become the ivo. international varmithunters association. man those things are small, and not durable at all. some of our local clubs tried them, and the only lasted a few shoots. sure they come with an extra mid section, but if you can shoot a mckenzie for a year, why shoot the "r" targets? stay with durablility, and shooter preference.
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I am with the majority here.I just do not like the Rineharts. As others have stated: pink panthers, red frogs, tiny bears, cobras, etc, etc just don't cut it IMHO.
Although the arrows are much easier to pull from the Rineharts they do shoot up fairly fast, they will take quite a few shoots and still look to be in great shape,BUT the arrows bury to the fletching or shoot clean through after a while. |
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
McKensie has just also introduced a new "Easy Pull" foam for 2002 that reduces arrow pull by 40-50%. This may eliminate any of the problems of tougher pull, provided the targets still have their great stopping power and durability. We'll see what the season brings and how they hold up, but if they do well, there will be no other choice for IBO targets, IMO. Pinwheel 12

RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
Pin12, how often have you shot Rineharts? And if Rineharts never came along, then McK would still have the same old "here, help me pull this arrow out" target as always.... RH is making bigger targets. Folks just hate to have to judge yardage again.
|
RE: IBO & Rhineharts?
I shoot ASA but I focus on IBO. I've been buying a McKenzie target each year to practice judging yardage mostly.I've spent several hundred hours judging yardage to Mckenzies and that will all be wasted time if the target company changes. I think alot of guys do this and will be very upset if the IBO switches and they have spent hundreds of dollars on building up their supply of McKenzies. As for duribility, I really don't think the Rineharts hold up any better. We were blowing through them on sunday morning in the Florida Pro/AM. And the cost seems a good bit more for a Rinehart. Ken, I vote for leaving things just the way they are! Also think of all the small clubs that couldn't afford the switch.
