RE: UMBRELLAS?????
Some of you are missing the point. I have no problem with people using an umbie in between stations if they have one and it's raining. What I do protest is the fact that people use them for ASSISTANCE.(along with many other little "gimmicks") I've seen guys set-up a whole herd of people around them with unbies to make the shot perfect.(Luckily the IBO squashed that part) IMO, if you want to shoot in perfect conditions, go indoors. Another factor is that not everyone carries one, some DO shoot in the elements, and thus we have an unfair advantage for some looming. So, it should IMO be much like Golf, you can carry an umbie in between the targets for rain, but NO assistance of any kind while on the stake and shooting. If you can't shoot in the natural elements and the way it is supposed to be, too bad. If the sun glares off of your scope and you cannot see, get rid of the scope or buy a sun visor for it. Pretty soon if this keeps up everyone will be carrying around a collapsable screen tent with solid roof and walls to keep the elements and bugs out and set THAT up at every station! (don't forget the grill, it'll take all day to shoot 20 targets so ya might as well be comfortable! ) Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
I agree with pinwheel and its not crying if you have ever got behind a pro or semipro group and yes there is a 2 min shot limit but be for real. and this is I Bow Hunter O not I Target Shoot O. ANd as for the other goodies on a bow scope stabilizer etc they are being held by the shooter with no outside help

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
Everytime I come across this stupid debate I get a kick out of part of it. Is it an "unfair advantage" Heck no. If they are in teh rules as legal to use, then it is your CHOICE to use or not use them. Just because shooter A stays within the rules and uses it to block wind/rain/sun/whatever, and shooter B doesn't, this is not unfair. Is it an advantage? Possibly/probably, but it is a 100% fair and legal advantage, its your CHOICE to not take one. Now if you want to argue the "aiding another shooter" aspect go for it, but don't tell someone that by staying within the rules they are being unfair. --Bob |
RE: UMBRELLAS?????
I agree with mossy oak and Darton--sheesh-what a bunch of whiners-Unfair advantage? Hey you can carry one-(I too think some get a little ridiculous with them but if they shoot within the time limit-so be it-and yes everyone shoots the same course so nobody should be able to use them right? Wrong!! How many of you have shot by the river in Nelsonville-say 7:30am? It's NOT the same course as it is only a few hours later-and NO-I don't and never will carry one -have used a hat before to block the sun(but oh,I shouldn't do this because this is HUNTING?-Sorry to bust your bubble but it's NOT hunting-If I was hunting I would pass on some of the sun-shots-but it's a target tourney and you have to take the shot-use a hat, umbrella or whatever-and no it's not because the sun is glaring off my scope or pins for that matter-doesn't even bother my peep-as I shoot barebow(mabe Tex is right -lets get rid of ALL this stuff-er wait a minute Tex-don't make me get rid of my compound bow ;) Hey-I think a bigger problem with the shooting time is the let down rule-think about how much faster we could get thru the course if once you drew-you had to shoot ;);)and it would be FAIR for everyone-just like Hunting-you get one chance for the shot........please boys-quit whining-shoot in sun or shade(your choice,no ones twisting your arm,and have FUN!!!!!!

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
I don't understand why people keep bringing this up. Unbrellas in no way make it "unfair" for anyone else, because everyone can use them. If it's the time your worried about it won't speed up a thing.
Do you really think that if eliminate umbrellas a person that normally uses one and steps up to a target in a field on a windy day is just gonna toe the stake and fling an arrow. Don't count on it. They are gonna take as much time as they need so they can shoot when the wind is calm. Some may even go over their allotted time limit. Who is gonna be there to make sure nobody does? Exactly, nobody. So just leave the umbrella rule the way it is and let whoever wants to use one use it. |

My question is "WHY"? I have yet to shoot a IBO Turny. But, after talking to some of my buddy's that have, I don't understand nor do I agree with this rule of useing a umbrella to shield a shooter from wind or rain.... reguardless if your a Pro or the average Joe. Do you have someone standing over you when your in a treestand? If the weather is a problem mybe they should shoot indoors.

|
RE: UMBRELLAS?????
This topic was beat to death last year and I thought that the cry babies had found a new BOOHOO by now. Until you expierence a hold up or another bad expierence caused by peole using unbrellas, express your opinion not that of others.
During the triple crown or the World for the last 2 years I have yet to see anyone using an umbrella. With a two minute time limit on shooters I can't understand what the problem is other than people on their PC's who try to excell on the net because they are unable to compete on the course. |

money or not I see NO reason for an umbrella. IBO is for the bow hunter and I dont see a need for them in any class

|

money or not I see NO reason for an umbrella. IBO is for the bow hunter and I dont see a need for them in any class If IBO is for the bowhunter why do we have more than one class and more one than l division. IBO is a twelve month activity and is supported by many people who do not hunt. In 48 years that I have been in competitive archery the failures in archey have been caused by people with just such opinions. If harvesting an animal is the only thing that interest you why bother people that are interested in enjoying the game year around. |
