RE: UMBRELLAS?????
The way I see this rule is, if you want to use one you can but if you don't want to use one than it's your choice. The rule is the same for everyone so if you want to use the avantage of shooting with an umbrella in the wind/rain/bright sun use one.

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
I say can 'em, along with the rest of the truckload of stuff that now seems so "necessary" to lug around a course. Never saw any of that stuff back 10 years ago, and we still shot very well, thank-you. Weather is just part of the equation, just as judging yardage is. If you have to find ways to stack the cards in your favor, whether using umbies to cut wind or sun, oversized shafts, ranging with binocs, listening for how long it takes for an arrow to hit the target, (one of the new ones) or anything else, you simply should be playing a different game, IMHO. Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
Years ago when I used to rock climb, folks wore manly atire like jeans, painter pants (more room) etc... one year everyone was wearing lycra tights. It looked like ballet practice (I now have 2 daughters so I know). I guess you could argue it is macho to climb with that litle protection, but I always thought Ron Kaulk (occasional stunt double for Tom Cruise) had it right when he explained he didn't wear lycra because "john Wayne wouldn't wear lycra tights". That's what I think. Can you see the Duke out in the middle of the street in a gun fight calling for an umbrella to keep the sun off? It's embarassing. If I didn't do it already, I'd look at 3D and just walk away.
If you can't see your sight get a sight you can see. The rules say you can use all sorts of lenses, but what you use is up to you and shouldn't move us to ridiculous external assistance norms. The issue is obviously commercial. Pressumably some sights might not work so well if Umbies wheren't allowed. Best thing that could happen would be to allert these folks to the new fact that they will be gone by the year 200X. |
RE: UMBRELLAS?????
I really don't see what all the crying is about an umbrella. It seems to me that the most people that use an umbrella are the open classes and pros.(due to shading scopes) This year MBR has been shortened to 45 yds. so they will not be shooting on the same course at big shoots(triple crown, worlds) this should allow for the pin classes to shoot quicker which according to some will again get shooter involvement back up in the pin divisions.

RE: UMBRELLAS?????
My reason for not wanting umbrella's is. Time, the more gadgets it already takes some people all day to get through a 20 target round.

There is alot of money at stake in the Pro's so it might be of an importance there but in the Hunter Class's and such you rarely see any umbrellas.

I am sorry, but that is the exact reason they should not use them. They are pro's are'nt they ? How much stuff is going to be enuff ? A 6' beach umbrella take the cake !! Bill Leslie |
RE: UMBRELLAS?????
Not trying to whiz anyone off but really folks, are we really spending time talking about umbrellas? You older shooters say years ago...blah blah blah but years ago pin sights and compound bows weren't around.
much less scopes, carbon arrows, etc. If some guy wants to use an umbrella and the rules dont forbid him, man, who cares. Do you really think his score is higher than yours due to the umbrella? Don't lay the waste of time thing on me either, there are time regulations and if he chooses to use his 2 minutes adjusting the umbrella.... so be it. I personally don't like red shoes. If someone chooses to shoot in red shoes there is no rule against it. It won't effect my shooting or my enjoyment being there. I may feel a little odd towards them but I don't want them strung up at dawn. |
RE: UMBRELLAS?????
You people must have alot of time on your hands. Do your days not feel complete without crying about something? What does it matter if someone uses an umbrella or not,if you don't like them then don't use them. If the wind or sunlight is affecting my form or shot process than damn right im going to use an umbrella. This is not bowhunting this is target archery. If its not realistic enough for you go do some real hunting instead. Hell maybe we should not use sights or stabalizers or arrow rests or even compound bows for that matter. Would John Wayne shoot a compound bow?...maybe and he would have a umbrella with him if he was smart too.:)
