This september 7 i had the pleasure of shooting the wva state shoot at tecumseh archery in linside wva. that club put one of the finest shoots i have ever been to. you could tell that those people worked hard and i thank you very much. i shot in a group with one of tecumsehs members but he did not represent the club or the state of WVA very well at all. eyerything started out good until this guy got a few points down. then he started throwing his bow and his chair and using words that nobody should have to listen to. the really bad part about it was he had his young son with him and he started taking his bad shooting out on him. but that wasnt all anybody that was beating him in the group he started trying to in their head. he did things like ask people if they ever 2nd guest their yardage after they just shot an 8 on the target before while they were at the stake trying to judge the next shot. after a couple targets me and some others in the group didnt want to shoot with this guy anymore. but we just went on maybe that was the wrong thing to do. everyone knows that archery is 98% mentall but how do you stay in the game when you are shooting with a guy like that. WHAT SHOULD I HAVE DONE? please give me some feedback from some other archers.[:@]

I' d ask him to control himself or leave. There is no excuse for taking things out on his son. That I will not stand for!! My 7 yr old son usually goes with me and, there is zero tolerance for people upsetting to kids.

I copied this from the IBO rules
26. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Any action considered unsportsmanlike will result in disqualification.
If I would have been in the group, I guess I would have told him to tone it down or the poor sportsmanlike rule would DQ him.

That' s a shame to have a perfectly good shoot spoiled by someone with poor manners or self control. Normally if their temper gets them that bad, they don' t have a chance to win anyway. I would probably look for a way to break the tension for the group, humor or assistance possibly. I would also try to give special attention to the youth shooter to make sure he or she did not go home thinking that behavior was normal. Keeping your own head in the game would be a challenge. Recognise his " head games" for what they are, and don' t let him change your game plan. Focus on your approach to each target and your shot sequence. Also know that he is spending way too much time with temper tantrums and mental games to ever be a threat to you as a competitor.

I have a feeling I know who that person and his son is. Unfortunately a friend of mine shot in the groop behind them at the 1st leg of the WV triple crown and the same thing happened. The guy needs a chill pill. BTW here is the results from the WV State Championship...
