Longer Deer Seasons
Here is a quote from the Allentown Morning Calll regarding the recent surveys.

But DCNR views the survey results differently. While deer numbers are down in some areas, Benner said there are significantly more deer than many hunters believe.
''More than anything, I would think this would be a reality check,'' Benner said. ''There are still deer in the woods at huntable numbers.''
DCNR officials also noted that the lowest deer densities were found in areas with the worst habitat. With little for deer to eat in those areas, it's unlikely whitetail numbers will rebound until the forest is given time to regenerate. The only way to make that happen, they said, is to further liberalize hunting regulations.
''We would like to see a longer hunting season, not a shorter one,'' said James Grace, director of DCNR's Bureau of Forestry.

Of course there are still deer in huntable numbers in some areas or we wouldn't have harvested 124K buck in 2004. But ,if we reduce the herd in those areas to 12 DPSM, there will be a lot fewer areas with deer in huntable numbers.
