Total points are not even close to being an indicator of maturity. Those that want to see true mature deer make this much harder than it needs to be. Don't shoot the younger ones and encourage and educate others to do the same.

It's absolutely true that antler points are not completely reliable when judging maturity but before AR we were mowing down 85-90% of our 1 1/2 year old bucks with their first set of horns. No system intended to let bucks age will be 100% effective on a statewide basis and no one in the PGC said it would. The goal is to let some portion of our bucks live an extra year or two longer than we used to. That has been successful. It aint near perfect but it has been an improvement.

That is absolutely not true and I challenge you to provide one PGC stat That supports that false and misleading claim. If that were true it would have been impossible to harvest 52.6K ,2.5+ buck in 2002 ,which was the first year of AR.

AR's increase the harvest rate for 2.5+ buck, thereby decreasing the percentage of 3.5+ buck in the herd. There has been no data provided to date, by the PGC, that shows AR improved the age structure of our buck herd.

OK. I figured I'd get that reaction. I have noticed that some members can't discuss things with out losing all control.
Yo dude, now you know what "O boy!" means. Another fruitless and mind-numbing thread has been started on a subject where nothing is being said that hasn't already been said 10 times. But you're relatively new to the board so you asked.

Thanks dude, I'll try to keep that in mind. But I don't recall "making" anyone respond to this thread. If it's something thats fruitless, mind-numbing and dicussed 10 times over then ignore it. Oh boy, here we go.

I believe QDM is a fad that will not be around within 5 years in NY nor PA. QDM will NOT work here up North. Decimating the herd with "doe" permits and then factor in yotes, and vehicles, won't be any left to manage. Change is good in certain situations, QDM is not. Where I live, several neighbors got together and started QDM 5 or 6 years ago.. you know what, they post their land heavily. I talk to all of them and they think it is working. They tell me about all the does they kill and sub trophy bucks they pass on. Before QDM they always killed several 8 and 10 pointers. No B&C nor P&Y bucks killed to date since they started QDM. Oh yeah, they do all that food plot stuff and sanctuaries... Hell, they post their land so heavily the whole 1000 acres are sanctuary and still no B&C or P&Y buck. I'm still asking them to show me proof. You might say the big boys are hiding. I spot all the time during the summer and Fall when the big boys are together and I haven't seen any B&C nor P&Y buck yet!
