I saw a deer with a leg growing out his backside once on a dump site.
Gives a new meaning to the term "foot up your ars".
I suppose national forest counts BT,we'll let you slide this time.

This was a point I sort of brought up a while back about how the game commission is handling things. If you drive through state gameland areas you will notice most often that you can see for hundreds of yards up through the woods. Or, all you'll see is pine and hemlock overtaking the areas because what was cut was just the hardwood. In either scenerio, deer don't tend to spend a lot of time in these areas. Even though I hunt well managed private ground, I still single out the thicker areas where there is a lot of saplings, brush and so forth. These areas seem to hold more deer and is usually where I find the bigger bucks. Guess what the deer on game lands do? Move to areas more suitable to their needs.

There is not enough cutting of game lands to promote regeneration. Someone on here made a very good statement at one point saying that we have tree huggers trying to protect the old growth forest, which most likely encompasses a large amount of game lands. This is not doing the deer, hunters or timber industry economy any good. The deer don't have food or cover, the hunters don't see the deer because they moved to greener pastures and good trees that could be used for lumber are left to stand and rot to the ground rendering them useless.

Good post rick.
No thanks lost horn, been there done that. The deer numbers in that area have been down for quite a while. If you check out the private land in some areas around the sgl you'll find some good regen. And the private land has more deer
I was just joshing you about game land 211 you can't beat it for food and cover for deer. Who would of ever thaught these city slichers could have wiped out the deer that fast on 25 miles of land!!

I was hoping you were.LOL
Thought maybe I was missing something.
That gamelands kinda brings up my point of this thread. The PGC wants the herd reduced in areas like this but who's crazy enough to actually hunt it?I suppose as long as there's one deer left in a large area in PA there will always be folks willing to hunt it.
If the DCNR does these flyover counts on state forests only they're going to find out there are literally large areas void of deer.I've seen these areas first hand.
