DE Late Shotgun Season
#21
Haven't been out at all this week, but I work for Blackbird State Forest and a guy got a real nice 9 point Tues. afternoon out of one of our stands. I didn't see it, but my boss helped him load it in his truck. He said it probably weighed around 180lbs.

I Was set up this morning 25 mins before shooting time and hunted until 9am. It was a balmy 8 degrees when I got outta the truck. Well again, all was quiet. Had a fox come by and chase the squirrels around the corn pile. He almost got one. That would have been cool to see. This was all of 8 yds infront of me.
I dumped some more corn and put another pile by the stand I use early season. I didnt see any tracks in any snow covered area. Im going to get my old man to scout around a couple days after this blizzard to see what, if anything is moving. 2 more bow hunts left, then its back to waiting for Sept.

Fri at 5:10 PM+- 4 deer walked into woods from state WMA. 1st deer out was BB. Last deer to come thru was big mamma Doe. Waited and Waited, she stopped in some small trees and wouldn't move. She finally gave me a front 1/4 shot whoch I took. I made a clean miss!! Couldn't believe it. My guess, I probably hit twig or shot too high as gun sighted for 100 yrds.
Sat PM was a snowy rainy wash out.

Muzzle Season;
Monday 5:10 PM+- 5 deer walk into fld from state WMA. (same 4 deer +1 more)1st one out is the same stupid cocky BB. Last 2 out were large cautious cagey Does. I waited for deer to disperse as they were huddled up. I waited for shot at largest Doe. I couldn't stand up to make shot so I stuck barrel thru hole in cammo cloth and waited for best shot. As soon as I squeezed off a small Doe stepped in back of larger Doe. All I saw was 2 deer hit the ground! Both deer high spine shot. I promptly dispatched both deer.
Heard stories bout 2 deer with 1 shot. I've never done it before and hope it doesn't happen again.
All the deer we've seen have been between 5 and NLT 5:20 PM just like clockwork. Nobody seen anything in AM that I remember.
We have seen more Bucks and mature Does this Jan on farm than previous 6 yrs. A total of 9-10 Does taken off farm this year. 4 have been adult Does(2.5 -3.5).They keep comin in!! I think we have fulfilled our QDM Doe quota for the year. Hopefully we have made a positive differance in the ratio. We all predict next year will be our best for bucks on farm.

Took a doe at 1pm
I'm planning 2 more trips. Saturday and Monday PM with the bow. The wind and weather doesnt look promising for my areas, but its the last hooray!
If I dont connect in these hunts, it'll be the 1st time in 7 years with no venison to show between me and my old man. Thats saying something given its the most hours I've ever spent in the woods in a season for deer. No excuses. I got one good shot with the bow and blew it. The deer have been around. Its been "wrong place, wrong time", bad wind, X minutes too late, x minutes too early,,,,
Thats why its called hunting!!!
Congrats again to all getting this late season success!
