Neck, thats a hell of a doe. 140 lbs dressed!! WOW.

I am not sure what part of the state you are hunting, but if you are seeing a few deer you should not be sad. Central and western MA lost deer the past two winters so I think the herd is down quite a bit. MA deer hunting isn't like PA or NY. We simply don't have the numbers unless you get a nice section of private land to use for yourself. Even then, it has to be the right zone and situation.

I hunted close to eight days this year, saw NO deer. Last year was six days and two deer. Granted I hunt low density zone to get some privacy, but you get the picture. I have hunted MA for 17 seasons and rarely see "alot" of deer during shotgun season.

Anybody doing anything w/ the smokepole? We went out last Saturday and did some drives. We hit doe gold on one and I ran 7 past my friends. They got 3 big girls. One weighed 130lb, the second was 134lb, and the "beast" was 164lb!!! I wouldn't believe it, but they weighed it 3 times at the check station for us. She was just thick & long. We had to double check to make sure it wasn't a buck w/ it's horns dropped.
Not a bad day's drive.

WMH, those are nice does!! WOW!! What zone??

I might do another day or two Muzzy next week, but have to admit that after 8 days and no deer sightings, my enthusiasm is low.

Good Luck

I hear ya...
We are going to go out again this Friday first light and drive till noonish. Then call it a day. I will probably sneak out a couple of afternoons next week too. We are in zone 3.
Good luck. I'll keep you posted. We aren't too picky about what we take at this point in the season. I'm hoping to see some of the does I passed on earlier w/ the shotgun.

WMH,

I love zone 3. I still have my doe permit open for that zone. We lost our spot this year in that zone at the last minute, so we where unhappy about that. Stuck it out in 2. Oh well, What can you do?? Good luck during muzzy. Let us know how it goes out there.

Lil Jon,

Holy smokes thats a nice buck.

Went out Christmas Eve day and did some drives with the muzzleloader. We had 2 does cut back on the first drive. The 2nd drive put 3 doe by my father in law. He shot and missed the first one. They just walked off and milled around in front of him. As he tried to reload w/out being noticed, a nice 8 pointer came trotting right down the same run, stopped, and then continued on to the doe. He never got a shot off! I won't let him live this one down!
